Best way to extend wifi upstairs?

How does the PC pick up the WiFi signal currently? Does it have an internal WiFi adapter, or is there one plugged into it?

Or is the problem that, despite all this talk of WiFi, the PC doesn't have WiFi at all but is currently cabled to the router?

So if you are connecting at the moment by WiFi (ie there is no cable plugged from your router to your PC) then there is a good chance it might work just fine upstairs. WiFi is like cordless phones, works by magic 😁 
If however, you are currently physically connected by cable, and your PC does not have WiFi capability, then you're right it won't work upstairs. If your PC has USB slots, it should be quite easy to sort, I believe something like this should work:

Are you confusing your router with WiFi? WiFi is wireless so if your PC has a WiFi adaptor then it will connect to your router via radio wherever you put it (subject to distance)

If it doesn't have WiFi then you can either buy a WiFi adapter for it, or buy two powerline adapters which carry a wired connection over your house wiring

Bear in mind those tiny USB dongle things can be pretty bad at picking up signal over more than a short distance

You can get USB WiFi dongles that have an actual antenna attached.  I found that I get better results using a USB extension lead to move the dongle/antenna away from the back of the PC.
