What makes it a 'Ulster limited edition' saver - is it because you can't open one if you live in Donegal, Cavan or Monaghan?

No. It is a product offered by Ulster Bank. There are no geographical limitations as far as I am aware.

It is Limited in the sense of its terms and conditions, and the time period of availability. There is also more than edition.

I don't think anyone anywhere can open one.  It is no longer available.

You'll need to explain this for the mainlanders.

It is no longer available to open as a new account. It is still available for use by existing account holders, and the rate is still competitive, despite a rate reduction being slated for 6th March.

I suspect Rich is a professional comedian. 😉

Rich isn't being a comedian. He's referring to the fact that Ulster Bank savings and current accounts aren't available everywhere in Ulster, and so are "limited".

Ulster is one of the four ancient Provinces of Ireland. The others are Leinster, Munster and Connacht/Connaught.

The Province of Ulster is made up of nine counties: Armagh, Antrim, Derry/Londonderry, Down, Tyrone, Fermanagh, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

The first six of these Ulster counties are in Northern Ireland in the United Kingdon of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; while Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal are in the Republic of Ireland.

The opening of Ulster Bank accounts is limited to people who live in the UK, including the six counties that are in Northern Ireland, and accounts aren't available to be opened by people who live in the counties of Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal even though they live in Ulster.

The terms "Ulster" and "Northern Ireland" don't mean the same thing and are not interchangeable; and Northern Ireland is not a Province, no matter how many times the BBC and UK newspapers and politicians call it one.

    I stand corrected, Enzo.

Sorry if I gave anyone offence by my earlier post.

I was merely pointing out that they call themselves the Ulster bank but don't allow everyone in Ulster to open accounts - only people in the part of Ulster in the UK. They can't easily change that - but could avoid using it in the names of their accounts!

So their entire name is a misnomer as they serve Northern Ireland only not all of Ulster! Ulster is the province of nine counties and its rugby team includes people from all nine - not just the six in NI.

It would be like the Yorkshire building society saying that only people in the old east and north historic 'ridings' of Yorkshire can only open accounts with them but not people in the historic west riding (e.g. residents of Leeds).

Maybe they just need more creative names for their accounts e.g. the Giant's causaway saver or the Lough Neagh limited saver which promote NI.

And I will leave it at that!
