I then did some more research and found that John Lewis Finance is not the card issuer, as mentioned in the MSE news article I shared, so it does look like this does have to be HSBC, as John Lewis just a brand name for a HSBC product, just like now it is a brand name for a Newday product AFAIK.
I also found some article where others had similar issues and HSBC denied it like they did for me, but after getting a newspaper involved HSBC admitted they were wrong and it was them and their agents were wrong and sorted it.
Hi @marcia, that link just gives a link to live chat (which i can't access as I need a John Lewis logon which i don't have any longer as card was closed) or to call them which I already did and gets you through to Newday who can't help for HSBC issued John Lewis cards pre-Oct 2022.

"Does the OP have, or can the OP download / otherwise obtain, a copy statement for the JL card? Preferably the statement with the actual transaction that the S75 claim potentially relates to."
I do not have statements from back then any longer. Presumably HSBC should provide them but as they deny any involvement in John Lewis credit cards they won't and as the John Lewis contact number only goes to Newday that's a dead end too as they'll only provide statements for cards they issued, not the one I need.
I do have the credit card number, transcation receipt, date, amount and an invoice and quote.
If you can think of any way I can get the statement I'm happy to try it!

That's the address for John Lewis plc, which will be of no use whatsoever to the OP trying to contact HSBC about their legacy JLFS credit cards.marcia_ said:

Possibly overkill, but maybe you could send a Subject Access Request to HSBC? Good chance it would turn up something that at least proves you held a card of theirs. (I'd include the credit card number on the request to make it easier for them to track you down.)1

@SusanPerb is correct, that address for John Lewis Plc will not help. We've very well established now that John Lewis finance did not issue the card. The MSE website link I shared also confirmed this back in 2022 stating you have to contact HSBC for pre-Newday cards. Even on that link you shared it also confirms this fact:marcia_ said:

"John Lewis Finance Limited is a credit broker, not a lender, introducing the Partnership Credit Card under exclusive arrangements with lender NewDay Ltd."1 -
JL cannot help as it was never they who offered the account nor credit.
NewDay cannot help as it was before they started offering JL branded cards.
HSBC are the only entity who can help with this. As others have suggested, write a letter. If you have a statement or relevant card number handy then including this will likely help.2 -
The issuer was HSBC just as now its NewDay, JLF are a credit broker in the relationship not the card issuer. If you look at the JLF website as it is today it states:mta999 said:As above - I would have thought your claim should be made via John Lewis Finance (card issuer) rather than the clearing bank HSBC.
The woman who disconnected you was right although perhaps she could have been clearer that you need to contact John Lewis Finance rather than John Lewis store

Have you tried calling 0345 300 3833 which was the number advertised to contact HSBC at the time of the switchover in provider to Newday for the legacy cards1
