Section 75 for Legacy JL Card

I need to make a section 75 claim for a transaction made on my John Lewis partnership card back in January 2022.
I no longer have a John Lewis account but I understand that I can still make a claim despite this.
I did some reaerch and found that John Lewis used to use HSBC at that time (they switched to Newday later in 2022).
So I contacted HSBC support call number to put in the claim as I don't have any other way to contact HSBC. I asked to speak to credit card disuptes or section 75 team.
I got transferred around to various agents who told me contradictory things, before getting disconnected. One told me they have a section 75 team, another said they did not, another said they had a John Lewis team and tried to transfer me to them before cutting me off. Another said they don't handle John Lewis so I'd have to contact them, when I explained that HSBC were the bank at the time for John Lewis card she said that was a long time ago so they can't help, I then said that's incorrect as you have 6 years to make a claim and she checked with her manager who said the same - that I need to contact John Lewis. I then tried to explain that is not the case and she said she was going to have to disconnect the call as she doesn't appreciate me trying to tell her how to do her job. I said I'm just trying to help as you've been given incorrect information and she said she's ending the call as she doesn't need to be spoken to like that even though I was not rude in any way.

So how on earth do I raise a section 75 claim for this legacy JL card when HSBC don't seem to know?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would do it in writing via email or snail mail through john lewis as they were the provider of the card.

Hope you have things like card number, date & amount of payment.

You should be starting with newday as they should be your point of claim.

I did try calling john Lewis first of all, but that went through to Newday and they said I need to contact HSBC which was why I called them instead...

    This news article also says:

    • Section 75 claims will continue to be reviewed and handled by HSBC. This applies to claims already submitted and to any new claims submitted after 31 October that relate to spending on the card.

Newday had no involvement in the John Lewis Partnership/HSBC card

OK I will try via email or snail mail next.  Does anyone have the correct email address or mailing address to use for HSBC legacy John Lewis account Section 75 claims please?

Does the OP have, or can the OP download / otherwise obtain, a copy statement for the JL card?  Preferably the statement with the actual transaction that the S75 claim potentially relates to.

I would then write to the contact address given on that statement as that *should* reach a department that will forward the matter to the appropriate people to take forward.

As an aside, what is the nature of the potential S75 claim?  The OP does not need to share but if they do, it may help with understanding as to whether an S75 claim has prospects of success.
Has the OP tried to claim against the retailer / service provider?

As above - I would have thought your claim should be made via John Lewis Finance (card issuer) rather than the clearing bank HSBC.

The woman who disconnected you was right although perhaps she could have been clearer that you need to contact John Lewis Finance rather than John Lewis store

Hi @mta999 , as I mentioned, I contacted John Lewis finance first, and they answered as NewDay and said they can't help with accounts for the old HSBC issued John Lewis Partnership card and told me to call HSBC which I then did. I then did some more research and found that John Lewis Finance is not the card issuer, as mentioned in the MSE news article I shared, so it does look like this does have to be HSBC, as John Lewis just a brand name for a HSBC product, just like now it is a brand name for a Newday product AFAIK.
I also found some article where others had similar issues and HSBC denied it like they did for me, but after getting a newspaper involved HSBC admitted they were wrong and it was them and their agents were wrong and sorted it.

Hi @marcia, that link just gives a link to live chat (which i can't access as I need a John Lewis logon which i don't have any longer as card was closed) or to call them which I already did and gets you through to Newday who can't help for HSBC issued John Lewis cards pre-Oct 2022.

I do not have statements from back then any longer. Presumably HSBC should provide them but as they deny any involvement in John Lewis credit cards they won't and as the John Lewis contact number only goes to Newday that's a dead end too as they'll only provide statements for cards they issued, not the one I need.
I do have the credit card number, transcation receipt, date, amount and an invoice and quote.
If you can think of any way I can get the statement I'm happy to try it!
