  • That’s interesting reading!
We bought the phone on the 10th December, CeX have been in contact to tell us they are investigating the delivery company (which is DPD not DHL which I originally thought) so at least they have been in contact now. When we traced the phone on the DPD tracking the parcel originated in Feltham.
  • I thought I’d leave an update to my original thread. Unbelievably CeX have now said after 3 weeks of “investigation” that they will not offer a refund on the fake phone that they sent us. We have initiated a section 75 with the credit card company and reported them to trading standards.
I want to warn people about buying from CeX!
Does anyone have any other advice about escalating this awful experience? Thank you in advance for any help.
  • This is another thread just to update on the fact that CeX sent us a fake plastic phone. We received a plastic display model instead of the iPhone we bought on their website. We discovered this on Christmas Day as it was a present.
We immediately contacted CeX who “investigated” and today they have come back to say they will not refund or replace our purchase.
We have contacted trading standards, action fraud and the credit card company who are in the process of conducting their investigation.
is there anything else we can do? We are absolutely devastated at CeX response!
I feel like I need to warn people about this scam.

    Advice?

Yes, you don't need to start more threads to update your original thread.

    Just update it!

Did DPD deliver it on time or did it turn up a day late? Curious to know...

I mean CeX have failed to deliver what you purchased. The difficulty is now going to be proving it, but actually thats on CeX to do. Have you asked them for the IMEI number of the device they sold you?
  • It was delivered on time. We do have the original IMEI number because it’s on the receipt from CeX and obviously it doesn’t match the IMEI on the box that had the fake plastic phone.
I’m not sure where to go from here, I understand that CeX may think we are trying to scam them I guess but I think they need to prove that but I really don’t know! We reported to the police who actually rang us back to see how things were progressing but they aren’t investigating.

Delivered on time is one thing, but did it have a first attempt fail? I ask as this gives the opportunity to swap contents (its a common pattern).

If you've reported it to the police, and you have the IMEI, tell CeX the crime reference number, ask them to check the IMEI number and tell them you want it blocked as the phone has been stolen - as if you had it you wouldn't want it blocked would you.

CeX have to prove you got the item, they have yet to do so as what you bought doesn't match what you got.

May seem a silly point but if CeX dont back down and this goes further, dont lose the box with the different EMEI on it.  Its another indication of the switch out.
