Bicycle shed floor

After good 2 years of talking about it we have got ourselves a new bicycle shed. Should I put something on the floor to protect it? I was thinking about a lino off-cut. This is how it looks like:

The green-ish stain looks a bit like mold, but maybe I am mistaken..

  • Decking oil painted on would protect the surface whilst also letting it breathe. Not sure I would use vinyl as you could trap moisture in the OSB.

The green (can’t see it in your picture) is probably wood preservative.

Thanks - our plan was to paint it outside with Cuprinol garden shades range when the weather permits. Should we apply decking oil to the flooring now? Here is the green-ish stain zoomed in:

  • Yes, that’s wood preservative not mould.

You can paint the deck oil on now or later.  There’s nothing stopping you using the shed for now and doing it later.  It’s pretty darn cold right now so the oil would take an age to dry.

I’ve used the garden shades on my sheds and it seems good stuff provided you follow the instructions closely. One thing to be aware of is that it needs 2 coats minimum and you need to get those 2 coats on in the same day. If you don’t it sets with a waxy coating and the second coat will not stick to the first. Just pick a dry day and only paint as much as you can safely recoat on the same day.

Certainly use decking oil. But you could use lino as well. Pick nothing fancy but hard wearing.
My grandfather put vinyl, more probably lino back in the day and li lasted 60yrs in the shed. It made it really easy to clean.
You shouldn't need to glue it down except at the entrance, so you can check underneath occasionally.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Have a look at interlocking floor mats. Really popular nowadays for workshops, home gyms, sheds, play rooms etc. Really easy to put down and replace. I've just put a floor down in a loft for a play room.

    It's great stuff.
I have done my concrete workshop floor with it.
    Dead easy to fit.

Just to add to - I see that green all the time on timber as it comes in from the supplier. It's fine.
