Whole thread showing as read when it's not

Hello MSE; hope you're all having a fab Christmas break.
So what's happening is that all new posts on a thread are showing as read when I've only read the first page of them. I subscribe to many and it's difficult to keep track if I'm catching up on threads from page 2 onwards in my followed bookmark page. If I'm on page one of bookmarks I can just go back via bookmarks icon but for page 2 onwards it doesn't work. It also takes me to the very bottom of the thread when I go back in to finish reading. Can I fix this? It seems techier than that. Thanks as ever for your help Humdinger
