Boiler has died

Our boiler has just stopped working. There's no display on the boiler and no lights on the thermostat on the wall. I've checked wiring, no fuses tripped etc, it's just these two things that are dead. Any ideas before I call out an engineer?

AI suggests the things you've tried but also, if your thermostat is battery powered, try new batteries. I hope you find the solution soon!

  • Is there a mains switch for the boiler/thermostat receiver? Assume that's turned on?
  • Yes, it's on. Our remote thermostat is working, just the receiver on the wall is dead.

For some inexplicable reason, our boiler switch is just inches away from our outdoor light switch.......

Problem solved by putting a little piece of red sticky tape over the boiler switch.

If it’s wired up correctly there should be a fused switch, check the fuse 3 amp
A thankyou is payment enough .
  • The switch also controls the house burglar alarm which is still working so I don't think it's that. It's a mystery.  :#

Unusual it to supply power to alarm, it should have its own independent supply. Maybe alarm is working on battery backup

Hmm, never thought of that. I'll check the fuse now.
  • No, the fuse is fine. Looks like I'll have to get the gas man in.  :'(
