I only discovered Farmf00ds a few years ago when we moved to a new area. They're about an hour's drive away in our nearest big town, but well worth a visit every month or so. If you sign up for emails, they'll send you money- off coupons, eg £2 off a £25 shop. You'll get regular emails with details of their special offers. I'm a convert now!

I still cannot get over the delight of making my own Greek yogurt! I've been consistently making it since the price has doubled and it's now more economic to make than buy (I'd like to say it cuts down on plastic, but because we buy milk at the SM (currently) it sadly doesn't). Every time I have made it I wake up, remember it's in the sc and wonder if it will have fermented. Apart from one time when I made it with frozen and defrosted whey it has. Such a joyful discovery as I uncover the sc!

@Gem-gem the stitch festival sounds so much fun! Must go and look at that. I think I would enjoy it!

Do you make it I'm a yogurt maker or have your own method? I eat loads of Greek yogurt.

Has anyone tried making plain soya yoghurt in small quantities? I eat it daily and always have long-life soya milk in my pantry stores. I want to see if I can cut costs a bit by making my own. Ideally, I'd like to work out how to do a daily turnover without ever needing a fridge so that I can keep yoghurt in my diet if I'm camping or am without electricity for other reasons. Thanks.

i use longlife milk for yogurt.It doesn't need preheating .I order a six pack of cartons when I do my online shop.

We make milk kefir every day, a slightly fizzy, fermented yoghurt drink, much cheaper than buying it. We were given the original kefir grains years ago and they keep reproducing. I have some in the freezer as backup.

There seem to be recipes for soya or almond liquid versions online.

@ Nelliegrace - Some wonderful wisdom in your fantastic insightful post, so thank you for sharing. Like you, I budget similarly for meat and take advantage of any thing that's on special offer; Easter, Christmas etc although I must say, my local butchers has become cheaper than any super market I use for offal and lovely fresh chickens / mince. There seems to be no end of people using the local butchers now, which is great as they've been here for years.

I now batch cook & freeze meals including making left over pies etc with home grown veggies when I can. I also do a few swaps with a neighbour so I get home grown tomatoes & runner beans, or again when special 7-9p a veggie bags Easter & Christmas deals are on, especially potatoes - I stock up the shed storage and again batch cook. Nothing is wasted here 😁😉.

I also love to make do and mend until I really have no choice but to replace which is once in a blue moon. I also take advantage of free local activities and the odd trip to the local library where soft drinks including tea and coffee are available free of charge which is handy when I pop into town and need to have a rest before I return.

Greetings from the sunny south. After being in hailstorm up north on Easter Sunday it seems a bit surreal.

Got some seeds germinating and now need to get more peas and the squash on. Put up my new pea trellis this afternoon and found some volunteer potatoes from last year which is a good start. Everything needs watering already but it's only about a month since all the floodwater disappeared around here...

My windowsill onions are coming on really well.
Cancelled a local lottery today, that £5 can be better used elsewhere.

Laundry all dried outside this week, no excuse as the weathers been brilliant drying weather.
Got to go through freezers again and sort a meal plan out, yes bit late this week! Better late than never.
