i have had this happen with buyers many times

but always when royal mail shows delivered  and i put in the tracking number ebay sides with me the seller

48t but not signed takes a photo which is helpfull for expensive sales and standard large letter £2
£1.55 large letter stamps i refund but i only send my very cheapest items that way

i only post at post offices and have no experience with the ebay in house posting
If you post at a post office and get a certificate of posting you can claim a book of stamps in compensation if the buyer says item not received.

i have about 40 old generic receipts and use these for higher priced items  that goes missing to get a full refund / i do not put in a claim if i do not have a receipt for it ,as it requires 30 mins finding the post office receipt / filling in all the paperwork and then sending it to royal mail who get back to you a month later all for a book of first class stamps which i never use/ i have had 2 books of stamps sent by royal mail for nearly 2 years and never used them
i lose on average about 10 a year and post approx 2000 so they are not bad

I don't quite understand what a generic receipt is. When I have claimed for lost items I have had to have a receipt within the time frame I'm claiming for showing the basic address (usually house number and post code) .I've always had a cheque back for all my claims- I haven't had a book of stamps since I used to use recorded delivery 12-14 years ago?  and claimed for every signature not received- and instead of the 75p or so for the upgrade cost - they sent a book of stamps.

I don't send as many RM items any more, my business is being partly wound down and most of my private stuff is SD. If something does go astray then I rarely claim. On my business account I'd have to faff around trying to find a receipt for original cost, which might be negligible, and most of my private items are very low cost. The last couple of claims I made took months- lots of chasing up and arguing , and basically not worth my time.

i have the post office proof of postage receipt always keep these for 2 months

what i meant by generic receipt is that i have about 40 shop receipts for dvds /blu rays with no title listed just dvd /blu ray  and price
if a dvd goes missing sold for £20 i use one nearest price to that i have

most receipts i get have the title on them which are no good

last one i claimed for took 2 months for ebay to refund / i have a mid size shop i think they just refund it into my bank card ./ never ever received a cheque that i remember albeit i might have done in 2001 to 2010 but i think even back then they refunded to your paypal account and it was a lot quicker

Whether the item is tracked or not I presume you Still need proof of posting to claim. I get a certificate of posting for anything not in an excluded category. I've had four inr in the last couple of months, three times I've received stamps ( sale value £5-£8) but the other time I got a cheque for selling price and postage £15. My guess is 8 1st class stamps is £13.60 so that might be a cutoff point.
  • royal mail give me max £20 on large letters and its £ 75 on small parcels which i send everything royal mail tracked but not signed £4.25

but i just send that way because of dodgy customers claiming they never received it or for postmen putting there parcels in safe places without leaving a card and customer tells me where is my parcel and i then show them the picture which royal mail supplies
