Are you likely to get anywhere contacting insurance about write off car?

Basically I can't find my passport. I've a bad feeling that I used it to pick up a parcel from a DPD collect spot, even though 99.99999999% the time I use my driving licence for those kinds of things.
I have a hazy memory of it being when I was in the car we had that was written off (both cars we had at the time have now gone). Not really sure whether it's the mind creating hazy memories that never existed or whether it actually happened.
Anyway, would it likely lead anywhere contacting the insurance to see if this was left in the car or is there 0% chance of getting anywhere with it, even if it was left in the car?
And the other issue is it's my passport but my wifes car & policy. So I can't really do the contacting.

When did you handover the car? Yesterday or two months ago?B0bbyEwing said:Basically I can't find my passport. I've a bad feeling that I used it to pick up a parcel from a DPD collect spot, even though 99.99999999% the time I use my driving licence for those kinds of things.

Generally insurers use firms like Copart who will be who pick the car up from you (or the garage if they had it looked at before deciding it was a total loss), they grade it and either auction it off if cat N, S or B if its worth more whole.
If its recent the insurer may say which salvage agent they use but more than a week or two ago it's likely been resold again.0 -
Have you finalised the insurance claim yet? If not, don’t forget to claim for any personal possessions in the car, such as your passport. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

The insurance company themselves will never have seen the car, let alone taken possession of it. They certainly won't still have it now.B0bbyEwing said:Basically I can't find my passport. How long ago? It might be worth searching Copart's website - https://www.copart.co.uk/vehicleFinder
But they don't let you search completed sales, and they can take a while to come live.
Even if it is at Copart, the chances of your passport being findable there are slender. Especially if you're not even sure it was in there in the first place...
And, of course, if the car's been sold on it's almost certainly been stripped down - either for repair or for parts. If it was really bad, or nobody bid on it, it may just have been crushed whole after being crudely "dismantled" with a crane and grab in a muddy yard.0 -
No harm in your wife asking them if they know where the car is as you may have left your passport in it.0

It was probably in October so some time ago now really.
I wouldn't have thought it'd be in there because I gutted both cars before they went tbh, to the point I was taking the car mats, boot liner & in my wife's car I was even taking the bulbs out of it.
But when you can't find something your mind starts playing tricks on you.
I was sure it was in the PC room but it's not where I thought. I've pretty much turned the room upside down today & can't find it. Then I started thinking - did I take it as ID instead of my driving licence one time. Possibly but I'm not sure.
Thankfully I'm not going abroad until August at the earliest, December at the latest, so I've got some time yet before I get the £95 stinger.
Not really motoring related but since I'm asking - I see I'd need someone to verify who I am again. Ballache.
As I've had a passport in the past, even though it's since expired (obvs not the one I've lost) would I still need verification or could they look back & see I've had one previously?0 -
Good chance the car has been sold by now.1

First off - this sold has me curious. Sold to who?
The bumper was mushed & whatever other damage went on behind the bumper, if any. Car would've been worth maybe £1500 private sale but they decided on £800.
Anyway, passport has thankfully turned up. For whatever reason I'd buried it underneath stuff that I very rarely use. Why on earth I put it there I'll never know but at least I'm not forking out £95.

Probably sold as scrap at that value, less likely to have been sold as salvage but possible. I guess you could check see it's been taxed if interested.1

Sold to whoever bids on it at Copart.B0bbyEwing said:First off - this sold has me curious. Sold to who?
