  • My Flip7 doesn't. Have history with non-O2 sourced Samsung phones not having Wi-fi calling on their network.

Sky do offer Wifi calling but unfortuantely do it in a really stupid (in my opinion) way.

When you turn on wifi calling it says "When wifi calling is on, your phone can route calls via wi-fi networks on your mobile network depending on your preference and which signal is stronger"   therefore, 99% of the time my phone uses the mobile network for Sky.

For Lebara they give you two options instead -

Call over wifi - If WiFi is unavailable, use mobile network.
Call over mobile - If mobile network is unavailable, use Wifi.

I have no idea why Sky don't offer the options instead of forcing a preference on you.

Incidently, I worked out that when I went to Turkey, if I put my phone into airplane mode and then turned on the wifi I could make calls and text messages with no additional charges (and receive calls) for free instead of paying the £2 a day you are supposed to pay.

Yes. However as they do it themselves, rather than use O2's setup rebranded, they're pretty strict about what handsets it will (and won't) work on.

Therefore? I have the same message on my Sky WiFi calling settings, and it's currently clinging to WiFi like a limpet.

That said, I also get the same message with my iD mobile sim - it prefers the network instead, so make of that what you will.

For anyone else looking for a new provider. I discovered Sky mobile don't offer WiFi Calling which uses your WiFi signal to support your mobile reception, unless you buy a new handset from them. I had to pay early termination and transfer back to ID/Vodafone which do include WiFi Calling and I can now use my phone at home again. Ironically Skymobile was "Sorry to see me go" and offered my head price" shame they didn't just pick up the phone and give me WiFi calling instead.

That isn't correct.   I use Sky Mobile and WiFi calling has worked on my Pixel 7, Pixel 8 and now Pixel 10.   I didn't buy any of them from Sky themselves and WiFi calling worked on all three.

Didn't work on my phone and I was told that was the reason. It works now I've switched provider. Just check if you're switching to Sky and live in a  poor signal area. You never know what you've got till it's gone 🤭

Not true, it works fine on my Oneplus phone that was bought from Amazon.

  • The reason Sky word their WiFi calling so is because there's too many different phones around that claim to offer it. It saves on CS calls as they can simply say "we only guarantee a phone will work if purchased from us". There's every chance it will work with the odd exception.

Like I said. Just check if you're switching to Sky and live in a poor signal area. You never know what you've got till it's gone 🤭 It was a drama for me
