You can get soundproof curtains. They don't cut out everything, but friends had them in front of the connecting doors between their house and the annexe they rented out on AirB&B.
We had these at work on a meeting room, unfortunately they didn't work very well, as you could still hear the conversations in the room pretty clearly... Now replaced with a wall and a door in the traditional manner.

If you go down the curtain route they do need to touch and probably puddle slightly on the floor.

Tried pinning up a quilt over the end and corner.
Then it has the 'velvet' curtains and heavy thermal linings.
Only slightly disturbed enough to go back to sleep and there was only a tiny bit of condensation.
Not sure how much I'm now routinely waking, just become part of me or because he's passing across the window.

Room was warmer in the morning though 🙂

But something similar easier to put up and down.
I'll try the thermal board after the hols.

Like the idea of a fence but its going to have to be very tall and slim. Wouldn't cover the vital area. Might blow down against the window in a storm as North east facing.

There is a potted tree there and at front but not enough to deaden noise at that time in the morning.

But I'm very grateful for all the suggestions. It's helped a lot.

Sounds positive in a number of ways! Would a heavy duty curtain rail hold the quilt? Or even putting up a wooden board with hooks and sewing some short loops on the side of the quilt work to make it easier to get the quilt up and down?

The thing is the quilt is very well tucked all around plus a small gap which someone mentioned or I saw online.

It does make me wonder if using the quilting stuffing fabric inside the curtains would have enough effect.
I saw this in some charity shop curtains. It would certainly help a North East facing room and when he slams the car doors in daytime.

Turning out some of the garage (so moving is an option) and I may have some left. Or it's not too expensive to get some tomorrow and experiment.
It will leave some gaps though at the top. I can solve that.
