Norfolkline do only go to Dunkirk but the drive back towards Calais is quick. I always travel with NL because it is so much more civilized and usually cheaper than going to Calais. No coaches, only cars and lorries. The ships I have been on were spotlessly clean.
  • I work in either Calais or Dunkerque twice a week. The queues in Calais for cars can be very long in the peak season, due not only to the number of cars but especially the high amount of freight (especially bad midweek). At Dunkerque I have never experienced long queues - on last Saturday night for example, a very busy night at Calais and Dunkerque with all the Eastern Europeans returning back to the UK as well as Brits back from the Alps etc, the queue at Dunkerque was never longer than 12 cars (that's about a 6 minute wait) whereas at Calais it can often be over 100 cars in the queue.

If Dunkerque is in the wrong direction for travel on the continent, it will only take you around 25 minutes to retrace your steps to the autoroute at the back of Calais. The Dunkerque crossing is also 30 minutes longer but that can be more than made up with the shorter queueing time.

My hubby is in the army and we always buy any ferry tickets etc from

You dont need to fill in any forces details so i assume everyone can use them! I sailed from amsterdam to newcastle for christmas with dfds seaways and saved £30 buying through forces travel rather than through dfds itself.

When we drove back to uk in the summer (august) we got return trip for 2 adults and a car for 70Euros! that was from norfolkline doing dunkirk - dover!

So i would say thats worth a try - let me know how you get on!

Just had a look at the Norfolkline website direct and we can actually get the crossing for £48 return if we book before 13th July!

I'd only looked at price comparison website before!

    Hi JoeyEmma
Here's the link you requested. A really friendly family who run a great bed and breakfast. We are a family of four so have always requested the Hautes Vues room. Separate room with two beds for kids, an enormous adjoining room for us and an ensuite jacuzzi bath which is fab. Never had a long stay there but always stop off en route to other destinations. Been a couple of times and shall go back again when needed. Fab garden for kids to play in, swings, open space, windmill at the end of the road - just lovely. 80 euros a night/ £60 quid approx. Gone up in price since last year but still would highly recommend!

Looks like the deal expires on 14th Feb to me.

    I've been wrong before though...
