Microsoft Contact Details

Hello - new to site & tearing my hair out a bit so hoping someone can help! My elderly dad has just discovered he has been paying a Microsoft subscription since 2017 although has no Microsoft products. The bank can’t help as it would seem to be legitimate. They could refund the last two payments if we can prove this is fraudulent but need this confirmed by Microsoft! How on earth do you contact Microsoft when you have no account details? I can’t even give them an email address as this was changed a few years ago. Ideally I’d like to phone or email them. Their online phone numbers just go to a recorded message. Thanks hopefully!

Do you even know what it's a subscription for? The amount will probably help.
  • No I don’t sadly - he certainly has nothing in the gaming line. If it was anything it would be Office although that’s unlikely. I know the amounts though but their Help Point won’t progress anything without an account email. I tried his old email and it just says account blocked so maybe he did have one at some point. I really just want to talk to someone …!

Just to check, has the bank arranged for the payments to stop, which should be the first priority?

Any grandkids or other family member that he may have signed up for?
Are you talking yearly, monthly or random payments? Amounts would help.
    👍
As far as bank would go anything after 13 months is not going to be refunded even if fraud FCA approved timescale. As customer is expected to monitor account.
I would be asking bank to block any further payments if he is not aware oof the payments.

Could try going via this to see if he does have a account

If you share the individual amounts paid over the months/years, someone here might be able to identify what the charge is for.

Did he have Microsoft products 8 years ago? Its unclear if you are saying he bought something on subscription and forgot about it after disposing of the item or if its been fraudulent from the get go?

As you say he's elderly could he have agreed to pay for something for one of his kids or grandkids not realising it's a subscription? We've had plenty of threads on here in the past from grandparents allowing their descendants to make what they assumed was a one off purchase only to see a stream of others overtime because the "save payment details" had been ticked so everything else was going through on it.
  • Did he purchase a PC or laptop in that year? Most came with a MS Office trial which he may have subscribed to when the trial ran out.
  • Thanks very much for all these good ideas. The bank has stopped the payments. The amounts are annual, and were £79 approx rising to £105 so does sound like a subscription. None of his grandchildren would have been responsible I can say for certain unless they did it on his behalf. It is possible he might have bought a laptop though & I’ll check that.  I’m making him sound old & doddery. It’s more a case of him having a very tough few years & we’ve both taken our eye off the ball 😪. I was just hoping I could have got him a refund & check no scam involved but maybe going to be too complicated.
  • Sounds like the Microsoft family plan. Will be difficult to show that you weren't using it over all that time, but no harm in explaining it to them and see if they'll refund at least some of the more recent costs...
  • It's probably this:
