Rejection process for Jaguar F Pace

Just for future reference, using the 'do you work for xx/them' in any thread on any forum usually sees the end of people being as helpful as they might be otherwise.Reni2019 said:

so secondhand rather than new?Reni2019 said:I bought and picked up my new Jaguar F Pace on 22nd November 2025 and the next week I realised there was a huge oil leak out the bottom. The car got recovered and dropped off to the Jaguar LandRover garage on 1st Dec 2025 where it is still sitting without even been looked at. Has anyone had anything similar, what are my rights? Surely they can't get off with this!! The car was only 2 years old with around 29K miles on the clock
Are you wanting to reject it or have them fix it? It's not clear from your post. If you are rejecting it have you actually told them that you are?
They should repair it in a reasonable timeframe without causing undue inconvenience. The reality is we are in the lead up to the feastive holidays and garages will be swamped with everyone trying to get stuff done before the garages close for the break.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. So, you picked up the car on 22nd November.Reni2019 said:I bought and picked up my new Jaguar F Pace on 22nd November 2025 and the next week I realised there was a huge oil leak out the bottom. A week later (29th November?) you realised it had an oil leak.
The car was recovered on 1st December.
It is now only mid-morning 10th December.
That is only 6 working days that have elapsed so far (exclude the day the car was recovered and today).
It does not sound like an excessive period of time.
How are you approaching the Dealership? Even if you feel aggrieved, a very humble and appreciative approach is likely to be the way to get the most amenable results.
How big was the "huge" oil leak?
Did it really render the car undriveable?
Do you have any inkling as to what the root cause was?
If the root cause is minor and easily fixed, would you still want the car?
It could be as minor as the fuel filler cap not being properly replaced following the pre-delivery service.
Have you requested a courtesy car in the meantime?
Do you have the car on finance?
How much was the purchase price?
If the car is not on finance, did you pay any of the cost (deposit) on credit card?
If you reject this car, what will you do for alternative transport?
Rather than e-mail and phone, have you tried a visit in person? Face-to-face can often achieve better results, so long as the conversation is kept friendly and professional.Reni2019 said:
yes I have, I told them on the phone last Friday and also emailed them today but it seems to have been ignored both times!Aylesbury_Duck said:Have you told them about wanting to reject it? That would be the first thing to do.

OP just be clear that you are "exercising the short term right to reject".Reni2019 said:
I wrote in an email that I am now looking into the rejection process. I have never had to reject a car before hence why I am posting this thread for advice. I would absolutely have preferred them to get it fixed but now that it has been sat in there garage for longer than it had ever been in my possession I want to potentially reject it. This car was bought from a JLR main dealer.MattMattMattUK said:
Did you specifically state, in writing, that you were rejecting the vehicle under the short term right to reject as specified in the Consumer Rights Act because the goods (vehicle) is faulty, or did you say "I don't want the car any more" or something similar to the latter.Reni2019 said:

Was this a JLR main dealer, a normal dealer, or some man trading as a "dealer"?
Burden of proof will be upon yourself so allowing them to inspect might save you some trouble.
Trader must refund within 14 days of agreeing a refund is due, this is matter of fact and must be established without undue delay.
Did you pay with any kind of finance/credit. If yes and the car was over £30k what type of finance/credit?In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
So do you really think that when MyRealNameToo points out that "... we are in the lead up to the festive holidays... ", that the "we" refers to JLR and that MyRealNameToo is an employee of JLR?Reni2019 said:

You need to decide what outcome you want, and communicate that clearly to the dealer. At the moment it's ambiguous.Reni2019 said:

And no, I don't work for JLR. I'm too busy working for Wren Kitchens, Currys, DFS, Ryanair and all the other retailers people are having trouble with.7 -
All of that is assuming that the fault meets the hurdle on a used car, where expectations have to be measured taking the age and condition of the car into account. I accept that a 2 yo 30k mile car would have a fairly high expectation but not every fault is automatically grounds to reject. The OP does not yet appear to have commented (or know) what the actual fault is. The oil leak is a symptom, not the fault per se.OP just be clear that you are "exercising the short term right to reject".

Maybe I'm being unduly charitable as we enter the season of goodwill to all men (and women, and everything in between) but OP's comment seemed genuine to me, perhaps with a subtext of 'can you shed any light from inside knowledge about how to deal with this' rather than the more adversarial remark others seem to be seeing? The 'do you work for X' undoubtedly usually signifies a poster who's unhappy at not hearing what they want to hear but I'm unconvinced that's the case here....Okell said:
