Scam Sky parcel

Obviously feel free to keep pushing sky on this if you like - but how much effort are you willing to spend helping Sky get their property back?. Assuming the package isn't huge, just lob it in a cupboard somewhere and forget about it - you've done your bit in informing them you have this package.jusnoneed said:He has spoken to them twice Willowleaf and both times was told they would send out packaging and return labels. Nothing happened.
I have been looking on their website but everything seems geared up to answering customers, he has never had a Sky account. Going to try again.1 -
Not sure there's any such thing as an "official complaints" procedure for someone who isn't even a customer.WillowLeaf said:
Perhaps try and follow their official complaints process, maybe Ofcom after that.jusnoneed said:He has spoken to them twice Willowleaf and both times was told they would send out packaging and return labels. Nothing happened.

That would be an exceedingly bad idea. Unlikely to be an acknowledgment given (which could lead to issues later if they actually do ask for it back and they have no trace of it being handed over) and will work in totally different areas to the area the mystery device is from.Grumpy_chap said:
Can he take it to one of the SKY pop-up sales desks that appear in shopping centres and / or hand to a SKY Technician next time a van is parked down the street?jusnoneed said:He has spoken to them twice Willowleaf and both times was told they would send out packaging and return labels. You'd rather pay a solicitor to write a letter to a company to come get a parcel than just put it at the back of a cupboard? Why?WillowLeaf said:
It was 5th on the list of suggestions to get/force Sky to come and take their property. Preferable, to me anyway, than the suggestion to hold it for 6 years.Ergates said:
Why would OP need to contact a solicitor? Sky have acknowledged that OP's son has not taken out a contract with Sky. Currently they're just an involuntary bailee for a small package.WillowLeaf said:

There are template letters to follow for return/collection of items that were sent in error or intentionally to try and enforce payment. Then a chat with trading standards, a solicitor, report the fraud to the police (dont expect them to do anything but a crime number may prompt Sky).2 -
If it's at the back of a cupboard or in the loft you'd never see it. Solicitors aren't cheap, you'd be looking at several hundreds of pounds for one to get involved, and there is no way you'd be able to claim that back from Sky.WillowLeaf said:
Because I wouldn't them taking the you-know-what by leaving their property with me when they should have sent a return label having said they would. It would annoy me every time I saw it or thought about it.You'd rather pay a solicitor to write a letter to a company to come get a parcel than just put it at the back of a cupboard? Why?
And this isn't a case of Sky taking the mickey, it's just them being disorganized. They've not left it with the OP on purpose as obviously they'd prefer to have their equipment back as it costs them money.

Open box, should have a returns address. Copy in covering note with issue & when spoken to Sky.Life in the slow lane1

Its hardly a shipping container you are looking after

Thank you all for your replies.
Sky told him not open it born_again.
Not our property la531983 so don't want them in the house, no matter how big the parcel is.
Looking at various chats online this is not an unusual problem. You would think two phones ( they say that's what is in the box) would be worth getting back.1 -
Ignore what Sky have told you. Whoever you have spoken to was obviously not competent to solve your problem.1

It's written in legal gobbldegook, but Section 12 of the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977 describes how you can deal with unwanted goods you have been lumbered with.Roughly:
- Ask the owner to arrange collection of the goods.
- If they don't, tell them you are going to sell the goods if they don't collect them.
- If they still don't collect them, sell them for whatever you can get.
- Keep the money aside because it belongs to the owner of the goods.
- If they don't claim the money in 6 years, keep it
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1
