I don't know the answer to the question asked, but just wanted to comment and highlight to others that Tell Us Once does indeed filter through to banks/building societies.

I asked my dad's bank how this happened as we were holding off for these similar reasons and they said it was the DWP that told them.
I wouldn't rely on this happening, at least in a timely fashion.
Apart from anything else, it can sometimes take several weeks to get to register the death and get the Tell Us Once link, so far better to notify the bank yourself as soon as possible after the death.

DWP would know the details of any bank account that they are paying benefits into, but they wouldn't have records of all the bank and building society accounts held by the deceased - they'd have no valid legal reason for holding them. HMRC may well do, but I imagine it might take them some time to proactively contact every institution, if they do it at all.
Right, wouldn't rely on it happening it a timely fashion or at all. I was just surprised it even happened as I expected Tell Us Once to be government only as per their website "Tell Us Once is a service that lets you report a death to most government organisations in one go."
Financial institutions are not part of 'Tell Us Once' which is purely central and local govt. orgs and some public sector pension schemes.
However, most financial instiutions do subscribe to a death notification service, so when a death is registered they will have picked that up.  This just happens to be similar timing to your using the TUO service.
But given the delays between death and registration occurring since last year's changes, it is wise to reach out to bereavement teams at all organisations as early as practicable.

Bank accounts really need freezing as soon after death as possible I would always go directly to the bank to do this.

The bank did say it was the DWP that told them.

I think that may have been due to the fact that from what I understand from this thread the DWP were paying into that account, so possibly a part of the DWP process to notify banks that they are paying into.

I have already set up an executors account.

The tennant has been notified that the estate is now responsible for the tenancy.
But, the rent is paid directly from the DWP.

Will the 'tell us once' service have notified them on this point as well?
Or do I need to contact them to get the rent payments sent to the executors account now?
Excellent, I'd follow other advice to let DWP know yourself, but if you have any difficulties doing that, I'd ask the tenant to inform them. It's also important to be aware of when payment is normally made, and be proactive in chasing any which go missing because of the change of account. DWP will have a 'lead time' before each payment when it can't be changed, but hopefully also a system for tracking any returned payments.
The change of bank details has to come from the landlord, the DWP will not allow the benefit claimant to do it because of the risk of fraud.
Of course, obvious when I think about it.
