I really feel like I'd like to give my reasons

Why is it you want to give your reasons ?

I just spoke with the golf club again and they explained that it's actually "Creative Car Park" who manage the car park for them:

    https://www.creativecarpark.co.uk/

They must have passed it on to CEL once the PCN was issued.
Is there any point in communicating with them directly?

Why is it you want to give your reasons ?

Because this was an honest mistake, immediately rectified when I realised it was the  wrong car park. It feels somehow odd to not at least acknowledge that point in my email to them. I'm innocent. I'd like that be known.

I suppose the underlying reason is the hope that they'll realise that it's a ridiculous claim and either drop it, or reduce the fee.

None of that will happen until near the hearing fee payment stage next year

Save your explanations for your Witness statement plus Exhibits bundle next year,  nearer any hearing date,  theres a time and a place,  which is months away

The dispute is over an unpaid outstanding Invoice,  not about innocence or guilt

    That will not happen.

From reading through the forum, I'm getting the sense that this will inevitably, after a long, drawn out and stressful process, end in court.

Am I right...? If so as much is makes me sick to the stomach for so many reasons, it almost makes more sense to pay. It s a huge amount of money for me, but I don't think I've got the energy to fight this.

More likely to be discontinued just before the hearing fee is due to be paid for by the claimant

    No, you are not right.

Issuing a claim form never means that a hearing is inevitable. In fact the only thing that is certain is that you can swerve a hearing.

You hold the cards and can get off the 'train' at any point if CEL don't discontinue, as they often do. You could make an offer a week (or days) before the hearing if it seems to be continuing that far. It's no biggie.

Why would you not simply follow our simple advice with template words along the way and see how it pans out?

That is, if they even issue a claim form.

Another thing that is certain is, trying to make an offer now will be refused. Claim stage is a much better stage. You even get a free Mediation phone call with an independent person as the go-between.

None of that is open to you now.

Carry on to the better stage.

Let's not forget CEL presently holds an old address for you as you didn't update your V5C.
