If I was answering that I would say no and that would be true, but I'd also have to say I was taking statins, that being the reason why I didn't have a raised cholesterol!

You wouldn’t be the first to be caught out with that. Taking medication to control high blood pressure or cholesterol doesn’t change the fact that you have it.

Your friend should insist on a face to face appointment, as they can’t diagnose something like that over the phone.

Believe me they have tried!  They actually booked an appointment with the Physiotherapy department direct.  Unfortunately, because they can't sit they had to stand on the bus.  The bus jerked, making their pain worse so physio said they couldn't do any assessment and they would have to speak to their GP again.  They have also missed other hospital appointments because they can't get there!

It's a case of, you can lead a horse to water, etc. You can't force them do anything.

It sounds like your friend has been very unfortunate. It seems that they have been offered appointments, but have been unable to progress any further due to a set of circumstances. Perhaps it's time for them to make a complaint:

You clearly didn't read what I wrote.  I would also declare that I am on statins.

I clearly did. You said, "If I was answering that I would say no". The usual question is, "Have you ever been told that you have raised cholesterol". You must have been diagnosed with it before you were prescribed statins.

You then said, "I'd also have to say I was taking statins". If you said no to having raised cholesterol, there would be no further questions regarding that condition and no opportunity to say you were taking statins.

The insurer asks you to declare any conditions or contact with medical professionals in the past 2 years, 5 years, etc. You must answer the question honestly and accurately.

Forgive me but the OP did not say they were asked "have you ever been told that you have raised cholesterol?".  If you go back to the original post you will see that they said "I was asked if I had a raised cholesterol level" which is a totally different question

The only appointments offered to them have been telephone appointments.  How can diagnosis of a physical issue be made without seeing the person?  This person has had problems with their hip from birth, although is has been stable throughout their adult life.  They told the GP but they didn't seem interested.  Another telephone appointment coming up this week!

Apologies if I misunderstood. Without going back through the comments, I thought you mentioned your friend going for a physio appointment and jarring their body when the bus braked suddenly. That was the only F2F appointment I remember you mentioning.

I totally agree that the condition your friend is experiencing cannot be diagnosed via a phone consultation and needs a F2F appointment. That is why I suggested making a formal complaint.

You answer the questions asked... most will say have you ever had X, Y or Z and then as a separate question ask for any condition you have suffered symptoms of, taken medication for or consulted a medical profession about in the last 3-5 years

Cancer is often one of the "ever" questions so if it is for the provider you are using you have to answer yes, if it isnt and you havent had any of the other then you say no.

If the treatment was within the timescale of the second question then it has to be declared, if it was more than 5 years since your last checkup or treatment then you say no.

Mine is much more complex, my condition is normally caused by a tumour but in my case it isnt. After declaring the condition most will then ask if I've had the tumour removed which I can't really answer because Ive never had a tumour so can't have had it removed.
