Dashcam placement

I fitted my dashcam yesterday following the instructions in the manual but then realised it may be for American cars. Is this OK legally? Its not hardwired. The black lines are the window wipers and the blue lines are to show where the window wipers go across the windscreen

Although not the cheapest option, I find that Blackvue cameras hide behind the rearview mirror perfectly. No screen but they may be "aimed" using the Blackvue app.. My rear camera is positioned so that the lens is just inside the rear wiper swept area.
