I want to subscribe to a monthly data download of just under 400k which comes as an excel docuement which I have not got and it can be transferred to Lotus 123, Quattro etc.
I have windows mail, got ntlworld.com email address supplied by Virgin media will it accept email of 400k and should I get Excel, Lotus 123 or Quattro which is the best to get?
I have never used a spreadsheet before do I need excel before I can transfer it to Lotus 123 or Quattro?

The spreadsheet that comes with the free Openoffice suite can open Excel files. I have moved to that from Excel and all of my old spreadsheets look exactly the same and function normally.

You don't say what you might want to do with it in Lotus 123, so it's not clear why you would need to convert it to a Lotus format.0 -
I am looking at share and dividend info for this year and previous years and will want to look at different sectors or sort out companies which have dropped by 40% over the last year or increased dividends by certain percentages etc.0

It's not really possible to be certain that the OpenOffice spreadsheet program will open their Excel-based spreadsheet without trying it, but as OpenOffice costs nothing, it won't hurt to try it first before moving onto something you have to pay for!0

you can use this site to view them
Online Excel Viewer
View your spreadsheets online by either of the following options. The supported file formats are: MS Excel (.xls), CSV (.csv) and OpenOffice Calc (.sxc) Documents.

You can also download a free Excel Viewer[only] from Microsoft

- and also [incidentally] a free Word Viewer[only]

I have used OpenOffice and it seemed capable of opening and processing anything I had! I'm sure it's very useful as an free alternative to MS Office and has many facilities - too many perhaps for me - and for my spreadsheets I have and actually prefer Lotus123.".....where it is corrupt, purge it....."0
