If you really want to avoid the ULEZ/drop-off charges, the easiest might be as Grumpy_chap suggested, exit the M4 at J5.

From the nearby Langley, London Road/High Street bus stop the 703/704 buses go to Terminal 5.

What about flying? Might be less stressful.
If not I've just googled and there seems to be several options, I put in "heathrow drop off outside ULEZ
Not sure re the ‘less stressful’ for flying - £450+ for the pair of us and we still have to get to Manchester

And I searched google before posting here - loads of old pre-ULEZ suggestions and more sponsored car parks that I could sift through

Am I missing something, but can't you just give them the £12.50 to drop you right at the door, especially if you were planning to pay for public transport from the west for (from the wording of your message) at least two of you ?

You could get their car details and just pay online / by phone when you are sitting around waiting in the departure lounge.

Edit: @luckbox beat me to it while I was typing.  :p
It’s the £12.50 plus the drop off charge plus the (potential risk of) time for them to get into/out of Heathrow.

We’ve a bit more time to play with vs them hence looking for an easier drop off point for them that’s still simple for us

As he's going to Bath -  drop you off at Reading and take the bus to Heathrow ? £25 each but book
Flightline 703 from Bracknell is £3 per person, not far off the M4 and probably easier than central Reading.

But I wouldn't get it from Bracknell as the route takes about 1.5 hours from there as it winds round Windsor and Slough.  As suggested above, you can pick up the 703 from Langley and it's about 15 minutes to T5.

If they drop you at one of the airport official long stay car parks (and exit within 20 min) then there is no charge.  You can then take the parking shuttle bus to your terminal.  That at least saves the drop-off fee.

Another alternative to not going through the airport tunnel and paying the drop off fee is to be dropped at the Hatton Cross underground station.  Tube travel is also free to the terminals from there.

Several of the official carparks and Hatton Cross are within the ULEZ

    Noted.

My comments were just for saving on the terminal drop off fee.
