Heathrow T5 drop off - simplest option outside ULEZ zone

We’ve a forthcoming Friday evening flight from Heathrow T5 - we were going to do the train from North of England but potential rail strikes/engineering works are making this less appealing.

We’ve an offer of a lift from someone who’ll then head west to Bath but the car is non ULEZ compliant.

Any suggestions of the simplest location from northern M25/M4 area that’ll give us easy public transport into T5 ?

What about flying? Might be less stressful.
If not I've just googled and there seems to be several options, I put in "heathrow drop off outside Ulez"

The problem you have is no trains from the North go anywhere near Heathrow and those from the West would all would require a change at Hayes and Harlington iirc.

Could get dropped off at Langley I suppose, if he nips round the M25 and then turns right to go onto the M4 avoiding the ULEZ, its the first motorway junction. Train to H&H and change. Depends what time the flight is I guess.

May be a direct bus from somewhere round there but I wouldnt really know about those.

Could you not just pay the ULEZ day rate for the person giving you a lift? Its £12.50, which given you were going by train and now by car you will have already saved a fair bit, as well as not needing to pay for local public transport when you arrive near to Heathrow.

I wonder if the easiest thing would be for the person giving you a lift to exit the M4 at J5 and drop you at one of the hotels virtually on the roundabout there and then you can get an UBER into the airport?
That way, your lift has not had to make much of a detour and get get back on their journey without impact.

If you wish to save money, there is probably a public bus service available.
You might also be able to investigate whether any of the hotels run a shuttle bus but I suspect, if they do, that the shuttle bus would be for guests only.

From Ditton Park Road bus stop (opposite Harvester pub, Montague Arms), there is the A4 bus towards the airport, alight at Pinglestone Close on the A4 Bath Road.  Then cross the road and catch the 423 bus right into T5.  You will need your payment cards.

Surely this would be the best option, give him the 12.50 to pay the fee.

Am I missing something, but can't you just give them the £12.50 to drop you right at the door, especially if you were planning to pay for public transport from the west for (from the wording of your message) at least two of you ?

You could get their car details and just pay online / by phone when you are sitting around waiting in the departure lounge.

Edit: @luckbox beat me to it while I was typing.  :p

    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

Plus the £6 drop off fee.

As he's going to Bath -  drop you off at Reading and take the bus to Heathrow ? £25 each but book
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Given the ULEZ and T5 drop off is less than £20, and would drop them off at the door, and he almost has to go past Heathrow to get to the M4, paying £50 for a coach from miles away seems an absolute nonsense.

So £18:50 - add a nice bottle of wine as a "thank you" and it's still cheaper than a train from Up North or a bus from Reading.
