Set up a TV. No aerial connections. No internet

I have an elderly relative just discharge from hospital. In all probability, she will now be based in her bedroom. So looking to set up a TV for her in the bedroom.

She lives with her younger (In her late 70’s) sister. They have no internet and are highly unlikely to get it. We have just got her younger sister to use a mobile to make calls and send texts.

There are no aerial connections in the bedroom.

Looking to see if we have alternatives before getting someone into put an aerial point in the bedroom?

I've a TV in a bedroom that works fine with one of those set-top aerials - a tenner from Amazon.

You used to get an aerial made of plastic with an ordinary TV.
And as students we used metal coat hangers 😊
But that means an old TV with the relevant socket. They could have those in charity shops.

I've run an aerial lead from socket, along the top of the picture rail, drilled through to the next room and down the corner.
Could be run along the skirting.
Sometimes you need a booster for a long run.

Are you able to get a standard TV or are they all smart ones now?
A standard one would be better as easier to navigate for a novice.
Again, charity shops have very nice ones.

Just make sure the programme guide is clear and easy to read. My current one is a nightmare.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Ask on your local FB group if anyone has a working old style TV you coudl have, I'm sure lots of people still have them knocking around.

Thanks for the feedback folks. Appreciate the quick replies. These ladies just tend to watch the traditional three (yes three) channels.

It would be good to introduce them to the wider options of Freeview.

All that considered, just getting there with a mobile making calls and texting. Only in the last few weeks was the mobile taken out of the house!

We gave my mum a mobile but she too refused to take it out of the house, she said if anyone needed her they could ring when she got home lol.
