Anyone got EV Tariffs???

It seems to be a problem
Energy companies only tell you the off peak cost of 1p for 26 weeks of electricity but omit to tell you the peak rate is £36726482 per second unless you spend 2 weeks filling out the forms. They all seem to do this which suggests it IS in fact working??
Ive been dumped onto British Gas variable rate from Tomato and no surprise that BG have sent me a link to sign up for their EV tariff without a single prices whatsoever, so again, people must be signing up???
MSE could help, but they seem to gone to a lot of trouble posting Off peak prices and Peak prices, but omitting Daily standing change @ £4678396274836278493628 per day
I find this quite frustrating and why I stuck with EDF for 367218 years
Anyone got a link to EV Tariffs that include Peak, Off Peak and Standing Charge?

Regulator need to make these companies much more transparent

Should this be in the Praise, vent & warnings board?

I thought the problem was that it varies by area, just like the Ofgem price cap does.

This is why they can't put it on their home page.

I do agree though that when you log into your account, where they know your address, they should be able to show you it there alongside the other personalised tariffs.

Despite what you suggest, in my experience (with Eon Next) the offpeak rates aren't insane.

This is recently renewed (Next Drive Fixed v11 - their current tariff) and I reside in the South East. Rates are:

    Electricity
    Day Rate 30.040 p/kWh
    Night Rate 7.500 p/kWh
    Standing Charge 60.000 p/day
    Gas
    Unit Rate 5.970 p/kWh
    S
    tanding Charge 33.600 p/day

For comparison, price cap for my area is:

    Electricity
    Day Rate 26.920 p/kWh
    Night Rate N/A
    Standing Charge  47.600 p/day
    Gas
    Unit Rate 6.180 p/kWh
    Standing Charge 33.600 p/day

~38% of my electricity usage is at the day rate and ~62% at night (EV's), so it's a no brainer for me.

You'd think there might be some sort of well-respected website, perhaps set up by a consumer advocate and now run by a major player in the comparisons service, that would compile a list of EV tariffs for you to peruse.
    Something like this, perhaps.
That doesn't include standing charges, granted, but in general they're much of a muchness between suppliers. 10p/day on an electrisity standing charge is £36.50 a year.

As an example, here in the old MEB area, Octopus Intelligent Go is 7ppkWh 23.30 to 05.30 and when the vehicle is smart charging and outside that 28.22ppkWh with 51.81p SC.

I think it's one many EV owners forget is that when comparing an EV verses non EV tariff you need to consider the raised Daily rate usage as extra cost per mile. While you can put the dishwasher and washing machine on during the low rate period you can't really watch you TV etc. So the EV tariff is something like 28.22ppWh verses 23.70ppWh. Plus the different standing charge.

I don't think many EV owners do not consider the increased day rate.

My annual electricity usage is 5286.3 kWh - 2008.794 kWh during the day, 3277.506 kWh at night.

Including standing charge that means on the price cap, my annual electricity bill would be £1545.71.

If I use Eon Next's best non-EV fixed tariff, my annual electricity bill would be £1512.49.

On my EV tariff rates, I would pay £1068.26. As I said earlier, a no brainer, despite the higher day rate/standing charge.

For EON's non-EV tariff to breakeven on my usage, the electricity unit rate would need to be ~0.17p/Wh.

I'm not someone that has timer plugs or anything to capitalise on the cheaper night rate, I just charge my EV occasionally and my wife has a PHEV. I don't drive particularly far for work either, about 6.5 miles on weekdays.

The only people it wouldn't be cheaper for is those whose only driving is to the nearby shops and back once a week.

What more do you need than this?  Unless it really takes you two weeks to type your postcode into a web page.

Most supplier websites give a breakdown like that... except Scottish Power.  I got duped into them believing a comparison website for the peak and standing charge rates.  When I switched they then invented it needed 14 days to get the EV Tariff and until I made a formal complaint, still refused to disclose the rates.  When I got them, way uncompetitive.
So Energy looked good, but threw me out for not falling for their Security Deposit.  Can see this going to Ombudsman.
Went to Good Energy, who were clear about rates, T&Cs and very quick about the switch and onto the EV Tariff inside 24 hours.
  • I'm hoping I'm in the right place…

I have been on Eon Next Smart Drive Fixed V8 and the time is coming to fix again. I have an EV which I charge overnight and set other appliances to work in the Off Peak Hours (midnight - 7am). Eon are suggesting I use the latest version of Smart Drive and fix that for 12 months however on investigation I see that the off peak rate has increased from 3p to 9p per kWh (300%?) and the peak rate has gone up from 25p to 30p per kWh. In addition the off peak period is an hour shorter.

Has the wholesale price of electricity gone up this much? Can anybody explain why the increase is so high? Eon can't as I have asked them - it is in line with some other suppliers that I have investigated but seriously this is outrageous as an increase.

If anyone has a cheaper option please let me know - in the meantime thank you for reading.

Welcome to the forum @Misternoisy !

Has the wholesale price of electricity gone up this much?

    Yes, sadly.

See this thread from earlier in the year when the price increase first hit.

Octopus used to charge 5p off-peak and are now charging 8p for their equivalent fixed Intelligent Octopus Go tariff.

If anyone has a cheaper option please let me know

MSE have a table of EV tariffs:

    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/ev-energy-tariffs/

Or you might want to look and see what Utility Warehouse offer on Economy 7. They always used to have a cheap off-peak rate but a painful daytime one.
