UHD - lots of hype but missing some truths?

Thanks, that's jogged my memory.
My previous TV a Samsung used to give me UHD on iPlayer and it lost quality due to the spec. change at the BBC iPlayer. When that TV failed I bought this LG and wow iPlayer UHD came ok.0 -
Non-Techie learning from your comments folks - many thanks. A friend has suggested that the Bose (LS520) is the problem as it's only capable of handling HD. If that's the case it seems to leave me with 2 options - replace the old Bose box with something that's UHD/HDR capable but keep the 5 speakers or replace it with a decent soundbar.0

Did you get your new TV up and running? Managed to sample some UHD content?
Any thoughts on the sound just using the TV?
That Bose system of yours is 15 years old, the interface to connect it to the TV (and therefore access the 5:1 sound source) is HDMI 4.1, it doesn't support the TV's HDMI 2.1n.
There's a website here that discusses how to connect your system to a UHD TV so that you can continue to use the same amp/speaker setup. Not my field but it looks like there's no simple way to just upgrade the Bose receiver to use the existing speakers but check it out. It's a bit techy/nerdy so sorry

Did you have your EE TV box passing through the Bose to get to the old TV? That's the bit that won't work because of the above, but the apps on the TV should be fine for UHD content.0 -
Thanks flaneurs_lobster
The TV is up and running and I’m well impressed even running through the Bose. Going direct to TV gives an incredible UHD picture but the TV sound is rather lacking and it’s something I’d like to improve.
That link you posted - wow! - covers every option in detail - but will take a few more reads through to understand it better.

If you're still considering what to do, consider an amp or streaming amp perhaps and a pair of stereo speakers. They'll give you a much better sound. The following is 6 years old but still very relevant.eltel3161 said:Thanks flaneurs_lobster

OP's got two grand's worth of Bose system, even at ten years old I'd hope that it would sound pretty good.JSmithy45AD said:

The challenge is making that system talk to a modern surround/Dolby source. I'm not knowledgeable enough about "home cinema" setups to even know if this is possible.
That's why I spent on a decent soundbar - it was easy - although the sound from my since purchased OLED set is pretty good too.1 -
Didn't know about the cost to be fair.flaneurs_lobster said:

You've just reminded me that I've got to try and sort out audio on Sky Q Netflix. It's decided to play Mr Mercedes (at least) in 5.1 Dolby rather than stereo and the vocals fade out if the camera pulls back, which is very annoying. The Q box is set to 'Normal' audio and Netflix doesn't appear to have any option at all. Perhaps the TV settings will help.0
