Rental debt, legal advice.

My son has a joint debt if £1600 with his ex partner.
To cut a long story short, he’s never missed a payment even though not living there for 9 months.
however he is very well aware he is liable for the debt due to joint tenancy.
My question:-
The letting agent has sent him an email stating the following:-
you are advised to exhaust all avenues available to you, including approaching family & friends for assistance.”
is this normal???
he’s offered them a repayment of £50 per month so far.

I apologise for my lack of knowledge.
However if the agent is using terminology as stated.
Surely this wouldn’t be inline with FCA codes of conduct?I’ve never ever heard a company chasing a payment stating approach family and friends for assistance ???0 -
Seems like just friendly advice to me and probably good advice - they should definitely try and pay the dent if they can2

Tenancy ended October. However she only moved out last week.
He’s lost his deposit due to the condition she’d left the place in.
He’s not lived there since February, but paid all his commitments.
He paid October rent but she withdrew the money so rent wasn’t paid.
(And yes he knows he should have paid the agent directly instead of to her.)

If she was only moved out last week how come you think tenancy ended earlier?
Who ended the tenancy and how, please?

So the tenancy has ended. The debt is an unsecured debt. Either he pays it off, negotiates with the LA or LL for a payment plan or reduced settlement or he does nothing. It could affect his credit rating. Jointly and severally the commitment was to pay the rent in full. How that was supposed to be done is neither here nor there.
I don't see any point in complaining about the suggestion made by the agent.0 -
