Freezer tripping electrics?

So have they now replaced the MCB with a lower rated one again, or confirmed to you that the higher rated one is appropriate for the circuit?ka7e said:Heedtheadvice said:So the mcb upgrade fixed it? 😀That was a big fat no!

I would recommend a new consumer unit and RCBO's. why is the inverter even fed from an RCD too? they are notorious for nuisance tripping RCD;'s and best practice is to design the circuit so and RCD isn't required (i.e don't have any sockets on the circuit and don't chase any cables into walls)0

CU is only 6 years old. I'm waiting for the solar team to get back to me to find out how to best re-wire the inverter. Thankfully, no trips since it was deactivated."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.3 -
I recall now that our PV company came out and moved the PV to a separately mounted breaker - effectively a mini CU - when I first started getting nuisance trips.
A few years later it started tripping again, but it was due to a fault within the inverter, which was getting on a bit. New inverter sorted it.1 -
majority of CU's fitted 6 years ago were still the antiquated dual RCD versions with type AC RCD's. you do still have the option of installing RCBO's in your existing CU that may be slightly cheaper depending on the brand, or continue to waste money on fault-finding nuisance trips, this probably won't be the last, the problem is only going to get worseka7e said:FFHillbilly said:I would recommend a new consumer unit and RCBO's. why is the inverter even fed from an RCD too? they are notorious for nuisance tripping RCD;'s and best practice is to design the circuit so and RCD isn't required (i.e don't have any sockets on the circuit and don't chase any cables into walls)

Final update -The company originally raised an invoice for the first 2 visits, but this was cancelled when they realised it was the inverter. 3rd visit, inverter was re-wired and moved to it's ownplace in the CU, so it can't trip anything else. And everything has been hunkydory since then! Inverter and installation still under warranty, so no charge. Thanks to everyone for their input - especially the one's that highlighted the possibility of my problem being the inverter. My freezer is the largest one on the market and I was loathe to lose it so close to Christmas!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.8
