Yes, when I cancelled my auto-renew, they played that game. And I did not say "OK". I never do.

If it ain't broke don't fix it!

The majority of people are 'sticky'. Those of a money saving disposition (likely the types to read this forum!), benefit from the sticky people, they fund the annual switchers effectively. So yes I'd rather play the annual game than pay more (the same as the stickies!). Most obvious example being the domestic energy price cap floor.

I insured my ancient Volvo last year with Churchill for £250. This year it is due to automatically renew at £326. Nothing has changed. The car is nearly 20 years old, and worth say £3k.

Have premiums risen by 30% generally? If not, is that rather a cheeky rise, and I need to go through the whole tiresome process of insuring with a different company?
It will cost them less if you kill somebody with it than it would with a newer more valuable car?

Thanks all. I simply ended up moving to AA insurance for £200. That includes breakdown cover.

I’m sure that, if Churchill had kept the premium at £250, I’d have stayed with them.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Yes. As soon as I said I was leaving they dropped the premium from £325 to £293.

You’re the mug for letting them try to match anything.

You give them one chance and then go elsewhere if the renewal is too expensive.

My renewal came in at £379 down from £414 the previous year. Managed to get a new insurance policy for £285 this I believe is the cheapest I've ever paid in 25 years of driving. Hopefully should also see £45 cashback from quidco too.

When I tried to cancel my renewal, they came back with £339.
