Motor insurance premiums up 30%?
I insured my ancient Volvo last year with Churchill for £250. This year it is due to automatically renew at £326. Nothing has changed. The car is nearly 20 years old, and worth say £3k.
Have premiums risen by 30% generally? If not, is that rather a cheeky rise, and I need to go through the whole tiresome process of insuring with a different company?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

eSure wanted over 100% increase at my last renewal .. I went elsewhere, so 30% doesn’t seem too bad (I’d still look elsewhere)0

My renewal at the end of October dropped by about 25%. To something silly like £150 annual. Could not believe how low it was, not poverty spec, low excess, fully comp and a GTi.0

My policy expires in two days. My renewal quote was less than last year, £350 down to £315. I've moved to another insurer because it's even cheaper - £275GDB2222 said:I insured my ancient Volvo last year with Churchill for £250. This year it is due to automatically renew at £326. It's really not "tiresome" to get quotes from other insurers. Once you've set yourself up with the comparison engines, you just go back in year after year, check the details are right, and requote. Dozens of insurers in about two minutes. Why wouldn't you? Even if you end up renewing, it makes sure the quote is competitive.
And for those saying "But you'll get better deals outside the comparisons..." - I tried a few of the big name "not on comparisons" insurers this year. They were all hideously uncompetitive.1 -
You should get renewal quotes around 3 weeks in advance for the best price rather than leave it to the last few days. From what I have read premiums haven't increased by much and at the moment my wife is getting quotes in that are cheaper than last year.
Just try a couple of comparison sites to get some idea of prices.0 -
what is tiresome is that it's all a game (if you know what I mean) They say £XXX and we say no so they say £XX and we say ok. Why can't they just give us their best deal first time round. If you still want to compare then fine but why do we have to go back and say "well George across the road will give me a better price can you match it?"I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. According to the Association of British Insurers, the average premium has dropped by £60 over the past year.1

The only way to stop this is simply to go elsewhere. So long as people engage with them they will continue to do it.Brie said:what is tiresome is that it's all a game (if you know what I mean) They say £XXX and we say no so they say £XX and we say ok.
