Is this a scam - purporting to be cheque from Virgin Media?

I ended my contract with Virgin Media 5 years ago, and had to use the Ombudsman to stop them furthering their efforts to get money from me. They were ordered to return money to me and they did years ago. Today, however, I received a cheque for £65.38 apparently from Virgin Media issued via the Royal Bank of Scotland with Virgin Media stamped on the cheque. The attached letter states the funds are a refund with interest, and "there's no need to get in touch with them", but there is no other information.  It seems odd that Virgin Media would not use either their own bank - Virgin Bank - or their parent bank Nationwide to issue a cheque. It is some sort of scam?

How could it be a scam?  Cash the cheque and see if it clears.

Their own bank?  There is no connection between the companies.

Virgin Media have no connection at all with Virgin Money (other than paying Branson to use the brand).

Virgin MediaO2 are owned by Liberty Global/Telefonica, Virgin Money (a trading name of Clydesdale Bank) has been bought by Nationwide Building Society.

I cannot see how paying a cheque into your account can be in any way detrimental, regardless of whatever bank the thing is drawn on.

    Not a scam.

Please amend your topic title, cannot see any scam with someone sending you a cheque.

I've no idea, it just seemed extremely odd after 5 years and having already paid me back what they owed me.

No, change your title for your posting.

Take out the word "Scam", because it isn't a scam.

When I began to imput my query, a list dropped down to select which topic it was related to.  I could not find anything in regard to scams, so did what I could.
