Not doubting your sums but....Not probably, definitely
As an example Three want £1301 for an iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB on contract. Its RRP is £1199, and Apple even offer 24 month interest free credit if you really wanted to borrow money for a phone.
If you use Three the cheapest plan you can get (for 24 months) is 5GB for £16 a month which is pathetic. You can get a 5GB SIM with ASDA on a 12 months contract for £4.90 a month. So all in you're about £368.40 worse off for buying it on contract vs outright (or with 24 months 0% finance via Apple.)
Why have you chosen that particular handset on that particular carrier, other than it being very expensive so makes the numbers bigger?
Maybe the OP wants a £100 Moto.
And the 0% Apple finance deal is a credit deal (is it still with Barclays?), still needs a credit check.....0 -

I have found that they ... will not give credit after saying they would. ....
When did they say they would and when did they change their mind?0 -
I chose it because it's a popular, well known device that people are much more likely to get on contract than a £100 Motorola. The numbers are still going to work out cheaper buying outright, even with a £100 Motorola, as the plan cost isn't device dependent, so you're still going to have to pay £16 a month for a 5GB plan which is about £11 more per month than the cheapest deal for 5GB. In fact the numbers would actually be worse if I picked a cheap Motorola as the biggest component of the price difference between contract and buying outright is the plan cost.flaneurs_lobster said:

I'm also aware that 0% finance is still finance which requires a credit check, I was simply pointing out that you can get it on some form of credit that isn't a device contract where you pay for the privilege of paying monthly for it but also isn't technically "buying it outright."0
