Mis-sold car finance now being contacted about solicitors

Hello, I followed MSE instructions regarding last year the ongoing car finance dispute and received confirmation from my finance provider (from 2015) that it applies to me.

Now all of a sudden I keep getting repeated calls about my claim from a company saying that my claim was passed to solicitors called Kingsnorth solicitors (never heard of them), who have now gone out of business and they are wanting to transfer me to a new solicitors practice. It just sounds like a scam to me, anyone know? Don’t know how they got my name and car finance company name.

Have you clicked on facebook posts covering car finance or enquired via claims sites?  or a clone site that pretends to or looks exactly like MSE?

Did you use a claims company for PPI (whether successful or not)?

Those are the most common ways people end up with these messages.

I did none of those things, I followed the instructions of this website: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/reclaim-car-finance/

    I then emailed commissionenquiries@motonovofinance.com
That is all! And this was all a year ago and I am only getting these calls now. I take it, as I suspected I should not engage and it's a scam?

The vast majority are not a scam... people have legitimately filled in an online form, often on social media, and agreed to the terms without reading them which, to a varying degree of clearness, state that by using the tool you will be signing up to a claims management company/ solicitors and will have 14 day cooling off period from the date you agree.

Most prior posters on here have eventually remembered that actually they did use something to find previous finance agreements or something and a review of the website does confirm the form is more than just a search tool.

But I didn’t fill anything out on social media, I only used the above link to see if I was eligible and then fired off an email to motonovo. I presume if it was legit I would not be being cold called but would have received information from a solicitor? It’s been about 18 months! And why would MSE sign me up to a solicitors, is this necessary for me to do as part of the claim?

And why would MSE sign me up to a solicitors,
It doesn't.  Whilst some of his are not fans of the MSE process (it is over the top), it certainly does not sign you up with any third party.

SEJ Money Limited does not appear to be a claims company or legal firm.  It used to trade as CLEAR MONEY CLAIMS LIMITED.   There is nothing on their webpage that contains the FCA regulatory messages or the law society messages that you would see on a legal or financial website.    Companies House has it set up as 73110 - advertising agencies.

I have also gone through MotoNovo, and no other companies and they have confirmed a few months back that they are looking into it. In the past week, I have had 10+ phone calls saying they are acting on behalf of a solicitor and I need to confirm a reference number for the solicitor to confirm my settlement amount.   I was under the impression no payments had been decided yet. I have repeatedly asked them to stop calling me but dont want to miss out on any repayment.
