I have booked two flights Manchester to Rome in March 2026 via a well known agent. As soon as I booked I noticed my wife's first name was completely wrong. I hadn't written the wrong name, it must have auto generated but perhaps I didn't spot before confirming, or the system changed it after. I can't recall because this was August. Agent said they would help but only just found out now in November that the wrong name is still there and whilst the agent asked for a change the airline said no. It's policy is to only change a maximum of 3 letters of a name !!! and this is a whole first name change. I am now stuck with the agent saying they tried but no can do, and the airline, through bots and online service, saying they will only deal with the agent. I have two tickets I can't use (because I am not going without my wife) just because of a spelling issue that would take the airline 10 seconds to correct. I have complaints in with each but not hopeful.

    Any thoughts or advice anyone??
You waited three months before checking if the name change went through.
Your likely only option is to buy another ticket for her. If you had bought directly via the airline, you might have more options for when it came to a ticket reissue or simply a refund minus fees. But buying via an agent can mean that next to nothing can be refunded.
So, new ticket for her is your option.
  • Just been on the Opodo website... can't paste links on here I don't think but it's quite easy to find.

Contact them, show them this and ask for supervisor from the offset they should not be messing you around. I would ask for compensation too!

Correcting an error in a name or updating a legally changed name

If you need to correct an error in a name you provided, or if one of the passengers’ names has legally changed since booking (for example, by marriage, divorce or similar), we won’t charge you any fees. As your travel agent we will act as your intermediary, and try to act fast to liaise with the airline or hotel on your behalf, where possible. If we consider that it is better that you contact the airline directly, we will recommend you to do so.
Please let us know of any changes you need as soon as possible to allow enough time before your trip. This is especially relevant as an airline may deny boarding if the name on the ticket does not match the ID presented at the airport.
Be aware that the final decision will depend on the airline or hotel. While hotels tend to accept this type of change, some travel companies have internal policies that might block this type of request. In any case we will do all we can to liaise with the airlines or hotels and try to have your name corrected.
