VPN question

  • Don't see why it would be less safe than any other browser, VPN activated or not.

FWIW, some banks/BS (can't remember exactly which, PrinBS? CovBS?) will not allow access if via a VPN.

Since Opera was bought by its current Chinese owners there have been several security concerns, most recently the Crossbarking vulnerability that gave extensions coded in a certain way complete access including to the wallet, taking screenshots, accessing private data. Apparently, this has now been patched.

All I want to do is use a vpn on my mobile device. So it seems no issues with Nord then? Recommended ? I was confused by their info re routers ,if that makes sense.? Just using a simple vpn app from my device is not a problem then?
    Thanks
Opera browser has a built in VPN - you could use that
Thanks, but I wonder if it is ‘safe’ to use.? I suppose as long as I don’t use online banking on there it should be safe?
It is but it only protects things done via the web browser so if you use apps to access your email and/or banking etc then there is no protection with Opera because you arent using Opera (iPhones have similar with Safari with a subscription)

Nord, Express etc sits at the OS level so protects all traffic irrespective of if in an app or in a browser.

It almost certainly will work with the router, few block VPNs, what Nord and us here were talking about is putting the software on the router itself which then means all traffic via the router is protected but doesnt help you when you are out and about.

There are some public WiFi hotspots that block my Mullvad traffic. Tesco and Sainsbury's, for example. I have to use mobile data there, or drop the VPN.
OTOH there are some paid WiFi services which have a hole in the paywall that my VPN software can tunnel through, giving free access B)

Tbh I don't understand your opening post. But I also have Nord & the same router.

For VPN on my phone I use the nord app.

For VPN on my PC I use the PC app or Firefox browser plugin.

For VPN on the nvidia shield I use the app.

It's safe to do it without any VPN at all. All of the traffic is encrypted and any attempt to intercept the connection and proxy it will be detected by the app or browser.
  • So I can use Opera then. Sounds too good to be true be true. Was considering Nord. Any downsides to Opera from you Operatics out there?
    Thanks

I like Opera, but found that the included VPN really slowed traffic down.
