Unsuccessful Mail Order Processed And Sent

I purchased online an item advertised on Facebook. Within a couple of minutes I received an email saying my order had been unsuccessful, try another payment method. The next day I tried to order the item again, as before after a couple minutes I received an order unsuccessful email suggesting i try another payment method. There were no issues with my bank and account funds, it's not clear why the order was unsuccessful. I tried a third time with a different account and my order succeeded.
After a few days the item arrived, a few days later 2 more arrived, the two unsuccessful orders had been processed and sent. Money had been taken from my account even though their email said my order was unsuccessful.
I have contacted the vendor and they say I have to post the items back to China (the company selling the item is in London) and when they have arrived in China I will be refunded, they are refusing to pay the postage costs.
I feel this is their responsibility to cover the costs of return due to it being their error, I wouldnt have ordered three of these items.
What are my rights please?
Any advice gratefully received.
Kindest Regards - John

This is a new one on the Far east /social media 'dodgy sale issue, they usually only take your money and send you rubbish - I haven't seen this 'take multiple times' variation recently. The seller never was in London, this was always going to be a Far east company - feel free to name them on here as they may already have come up on another thread as at this time of year these dodgy social media adverts are everywhere.
Your 'rights' and what actually might happen may not be the same, as you bought from a foreign company your rights will depend on the laws there . Even if you do send any back there is little to no chance it will ever show as delivered so you would be wasting the costs of very expensive tracked postage for nothing.
There is a possibility that if more than one identical payment went from the same bank that they might refund one of them as a goodwill gesture, but I suspect you might have a fight on your hands.
The usual suggestion with these companies is to try and negotiate some sort of part refund, many will pay back a small percentage just to make you go away.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Sadly confirmed later we had not..
TBH, not worth sending back. As odds on it will cost more than item worth & will never be received, due to Chinese customs.
For future. If ever purchasing online & get a unsuccessful message. Check bank account. If pending amount is showing DO NOT DO AGAIN...
Unsuccessful can just be a timeout message on the reply payment received.
For Future 2. Do not buy off social media, without full due diligence on the purchase by checking T/C returns policy & exactly where they are based.

I expect a hunch based on the umpteen other Chinese-based sellers which have no actual connection with the UK.johnb80 said:

To return the items to the address in China is going to cost £55. In my view this is not my fault and they should stand the shipping cost etc. I also believe they should refund me immediately, funds were taken for orders they claim were unsuccessful, I'm sure consumer law will have something in there to support my case.

So they are drop shipping, using a Uk registered address but actually based in China - their returns policy states items go back to China.
The UK address is also just a drop box, there are 503 companies registered there.
Address profile: 7 CORONATION ROAD, DEPHNA HOUSE, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, NW10 7PQ
A Far east company trying to look legit.
strangely only 5 reviews on Trustpilot for a company established 6 yeas ago.

Legally you could try and sue them , but depending on how much you are out of pocket it might be throwing good money after bad.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
