The O2 boycott - Can I leave penalty free if they haven't contacted me?

After watching the Martin Lewis Money Show last week, it was interesting to see him irate at the way O2 is behaving with its price hike after the hike! Quite rightly. To be honest I didn't think it would affect me much, I'm on a sim only deal at £22 a month which, at the moment, is the best deal I've ever been on.

Interestingly though, I didn't know Tesco Mobile piggyback off the O2 network and that good deals are available through them. I've been wanting to get an iPad for quite some time and with me using an old iPhone 11 with a dodgy charging port I'm seriously considering the Tesco Black Friday deal of a new iPhone16 and iPad A16 combo deal for £39.99 per month.

My question is this....can I leave my current O2 contract penalty free when they haven't contacted me about the price hike yet? I know you have 30days to leave after they get in touch. My contract isn't up until September '26. What should I do?

I'm with Tesco Mobile PAYG as you say run by O2 and I'm getting all these problems that O2 customers post about and so maybe you going to jump out of the frying pan into the fire.

The OP is looking at PAYM on Tesco Mobile.

What problems exactly are you finding with them?

Phone now no longer works after messages about 3g and moving me to a paying scheme.
Went to store they ordered a 4g replacement SIM which as not arrived.
Phoned them on landline I can't receive security code on my mobile so won't talk to me. Was overseas hard to follow voice. Pleaded with them I'm 87 and need help but they refused.
E-mailed twice and get security questions incorrect they say so they can't help me.

So I decided after donkeys years with them to get another suppliers SIM but not on O2 network.

Bad thing is I lost my long standing number.

I'm concerned that you may not have cancelled your contract with O2 from what you have said.

How did you cancel given that you couldn't answer the security questions? You can't just cancel your direct debit and walk away. Typically you would get a PAC to transfer your existing number across to your new provider (which you obviously didn't do) or a STAC to terminate your old number (which I also doubt).

    I have not cancelled.
Tesco/O2 have cut the phone off.
I did not have DD as it was PAYG and I had £10 credit put in at Tesco Mobile in store as required.
Would be nice to get PAC to give to my new provider to use my old number but as I said can't contact them.
