Does my bill make any sense to  anyone? Why have I gone from £431 in credit to £179? EDF says my meter was incorrect, but haven't stated anything other than  that.
From the details you've shared, it looks as though you've had estimated bills for the past 18 months or so. EDF have now got a set of actual readings so they've reversed all those estimated bills and have re-billed for the period.
You'll need to share the bits of the bill showing usage (in kWh) not cost.
Yes, if you share the pages with the meter readings it should let us confirm this.

  • Heres the meter readings. Does it look correct? I don't understand why my energy supplier has reduced my credit by more than  £250. I have numbered the pages to try and help. I did put them in chronological order, but the images have come out in a different order!

So first up - it looks like you have a smart electric meter (although perhaps an older one that has recently gone back to being smart after not having been for a while?) but an older style gas meter which either isn't smart, OR a newer one which isn't connecting.

If that is the situation, then you need to ensure you give monthly readings for the gas.

I'm going back and forth trying to make sense of it.  It appears that your bill covers a period of around 20 months from early February 2024 to early October 2025 - a bit over 600 days.  As @WiserMiser mentioned, something odd happens with your gas readings on 9th March 24 - it has both customer and opening readings of 4132 which then become 885?

In the period shown, I think I get to 5,210kWh of electricity and 1,258m³ of gas (approx.14,223kWh).  Using my own current tariffs which are perhaps somewhere in the middle of the various rates that apply to your billing period shown - I come to a total - purely for plausibility purposes - of £1,069 for gas and £1,626 for electricity = £2,884 in total = £144.20 per month average.  Most of the readings used are either smart meter readings or customer supplied ones, only a couple are estimates, so the billing should be largely correct - estimates tend to get evened out by the next proper reading.  Problems tend to arise where there are a lot of estimates used over a period of time, getting progressively further from reality - in either direction.

I can't see on the bills shown what you actually paid - obviously if your bill is for more than your monthly DDs contribute, then the credit you hold will be reduced by the difference - as this is something you asked about in your OP.

ETA:  My monthly estimate of £144.20 x 12 = £1,730.40 - their annual estimate on page 1 of the thread comes to a total of £1,721.57 - surprisingly close to my 'guess', so as a plausibility test, it seems in the right ballpark.

As others have said, your gas meter was presumably changed on 9/3/24.
It is quite a bit to unravel, but doesn't look unreasonable. You had an estimated gas reading on 1/7/24 of 1192, followed by a customer reading for the same value on 23/8/24. Was that because you couldn't enter a lower number? It was subsequently straightened out though with the latest customer reading on 1/10/25. Is your gas meter "smart" but not communicating? In which gas, give manual readings monthly.
Your electricity looks OK. Getting smart readings and billing accordingly.
I see you were on their standard tariff for most of 2024, but went onto an "Essentials Fixed 1Yr Sep25" in August 2024 for both fuels, and it looks like they've given you an extension to that fix until Sep 2026.

Edit: If I remember correctly EDF only used to bill once every 6 months, so estimated readings could be significantly out of touch with reality.
