Vodafone Broadband First Charge Doubled

Hello, wanted to get some advice because Vodafone's customer service are making no sense to me.
So I started a 24-month Broadband contract and my first bill went out today but I noticed immediately it's double what I should be charged. I checked the itemisation on the bill and it says I was charged the other half from a 'pro rata plan charge'. When I queried this I was told it's Vodafone's policy to charge one month in advance, so when I asked if that means I won't be charged for next month they told me I won't be refunded the extra month until the end of the contract, 24 months away.
I have never been charged this way before on any energy tariff or broadband plan so am I being a bit thick here in not understanding how this works and if it's even ok? I couldn't find anything in my contract mentioning this either.
Thanks in advance.

Perfectly normal for TV/broadband/phone type of contracts. Most things like this are paid in advance and generally you get a refund or a smaller bill at the end.1
