Is it now possible to retain a BT internet email address and switch to another broadband provider?

My elderly Dad really should move away from BT as his broadband/landline provider as their costs are way higher than competitors. Two years ago, they 'seduced' him into getting a three hub system (he lives in a two bedroom apartment in a retirement complex) which was really not necessary.  However, he absolutely can't face having to get a new email address (he's currently @btinternet) and all that goes with such a change. I have seen that there is a way to do this but think it incurs another charge - is anyone familiar with this please?  TIA.

Move away from BT doesn’t delete the email address but it downgrades it to ‘web mail’ so you can’t use an email client and get ‘notifications’ or read or send emails as most people do with programs like MS Outlook , you have to log on to your BT email account via a browser session, and access your emails that way ….you can  keep the email address  accessible via your email client programmes on phones , tablets , laptop or whatever by paying for premium access , as an ex customer, if memory serves it’s around £7 to £8 a month  which may make the new provider price less appealing .

BTW , there is no such thing as a 3 hub system , sounds as though they took ‘complete wifi ‘ which are WiFi extenders, if they are not necessary because the place isn’t big enough to need them , they are optional and when out of a minimum term can be removed from the bill (and sent back ) , as far as taking them in the first place when they are not needed , is this your first time with salespeople  ? that’s their job , unfortunately some people are naive , if WiFi from the router is sufficient then clearly he should have said ‘no thanks’ ,  I’m not defending that BTW , but it’s hardly unique to BT salespeople

You say is it now possible, it’s been possible for very many years , and by way of comparison, leave some ISP’s , they simply delete your email account immediately, so at least BT are keeping a basic free email access for ex customers,
  • That is so helpful - thank you. He does only use the webmail functionality at the moment anyway so now worth an investigation into alternatives.  Sadly, because Dad is 99, he wasn't aware of what he needed as far as the extenders were concerned - and it was done before I knew about it.
