Reality check. Which of 2 mobiles
I wanted a small light mobile. Calls and texts. Very occasional internet usage. PAYG.
Apple mini £208 second hand
Small and light as I want.
Up to 5g
Limited to istore for free apps star identification, bird song, bus arrival times.
Can't listen to music on bus without getting chargeable ear buds.
Honor 5c £59 new
Larger and heavier x 2
Has headphone jack which I prefer
4g
Android apps with more apps choice.
Would be easier to use for reading
Seems the Android makes more sense but most of the time it will be in my bag unused and it's weighty.
I have an honour tablet which is very good.
Simple requirements are never simple it seems.
Any thoughts that I've missed please.

Just on the iPhone and headphones - you can get an adaptor that plugs into the phone's Lightning socket (it's not USB) that will take ordinary wired headphones.

Buy a new phone with a warranty.3

Just a warning about used (re-conditioned, used - like new etc) phones. I have bought 2 in the past, they both failed miserably. One of them the battery failed very quickly. The other, the touchscreen failed after about a year. On both occasions I had no warranty beyond the (1 or 3) months offered by the seller. For new phones, I always think iphones and the latest galaxies are far too much for what they offer. I have had motorolas and curently have a Google Pixel 7. The Pixel is very good, I tend to buy new old stock so you get a good guarantee but are buying the cheapest new phone in their range which hasn't been used by someone else for 2 years. The other option is a non-branded android phone which are plentiful; there are a lot of good ones for around £100 new but they may be too heavy for what you want. On that note - if it's in your handbag would you really notice a few extra grams?!2

Interesting about the headphones adapter Flaneurs.
Never heard of that. Our buses now have charging sockets. But I have a little MP3 player with a 72hr play time.
Butter I had been looking at the pixel because can be small.
Yes weight does matter. I'm old and injured with small hands and 90% of the time it won't be being used. I too have a second hand one that's lasted me 8yrs. But phones are used a crazy lot more now so I think wear and tear will be greater.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

You can get branded ones for £12 and unbranded ones for £3, used a UGreen one for ages.twopenny said:Interesting about the headphones adapter Flaneurs.

Apple also do their own wired EarPods with lightning connector for £20 and again third parties do some for £91 -
Too late I think.
I bought a second hand iPhone mini and I'm already regretting it 😟I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Well... I'd say exactly the opposite. Since 2015 I've bought some eight or nine smartphones for me, the wife and other family members, all either as refurbs or simply used and all were excellent (but... I only buy from reputable companies or sellers with 100% positive). Among the first was a £50 (IIRC) Sony L1 which is still in use today as GPS for hiking tours. A Sony XA1 Ultra I sold after three years to Cex for what I'd paid for it. We still have two Oppos and a Google Pixel 7. The others were for family members and all are still working perfectly.ButterCheese said:Just a warning about used (re-conditioned, used - like new etc) phones. And talking about refurbs, since 2011 I've also stopped buying new PCs. All the lappies we had/have in-house, starting with two Lenovo X220s, have been refurbs.
Of course there's always a risk when buying used/refurbished. But if you're careful where (or from whom) you buy, if you're not in a hurry and if you can wait for any of eBay's 20% or even 25% off campaigns then there are some amazing bargains to be had.

Our one and only local shop gives 3 MTS warranty on battery and a year on the hand set.
Unfortunately in the end I had to buy both because one fits in my bag and the other has earphone jack, Sd card slot and big enough for games if I have to go in hospital.
Oh and it makes calls........so much better than the little apple, intuitive and clear. And a quarter of the price. Just too big.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
