How do I read my Smart Electric Meter?
Comments

Daily readings doesn't show the total meter reading grrrrrr, but the daily consumption is still taking place and being updated on the portal. When British Gas ask me for the final reading, I'm just going to use the last meter reading Oct 31 and add Nov daily consumption to it.cfw1994 said:I am taking daily readings.
Tomato had the accurate readings, although I’m not sure any bill actually showed a meter reading 🧐

What is the actual issue with just taking an up to date reading from the meter? Seriously - it's a 2 minute task, and it will be time you will be grateful you spent when BG mess things up! You will also then be able to continue to take a reading monthly to maintain your own records - very useful if a meter fails or if your comms hub stops sending readings for any reason.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Tomato had the accurate readings, although I’m not sure any bill actually showed a meter reading 🧐Read the actual meter and photograph it.I recently switched to BG, have smart meters and despite my previous supplier using the smart electric meter reading for the closing bill, BG estimated the starting reading, lower than the final reading. They were showing usage in their app, so were clearly receiving data from the meter.I explained in an online chat that I had effectively been billed twice for the same electricity, and they adjusted my billing. I had to also give them my own latest reading to stop them estimating it. They assured me the matter was sorted and they will use smart meter readings in future. My IHD will actually show the meter readings, but not all do. However, I've yet to see an actual smart meter that you can't obtain the reading(s) from, even if you have to push a few buttons to navigate through a menu.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
