How do I read my Smart Electric Meter?

Tomato energy has just closed down and were being transferred to British Gas for Electricity
I guess I need to do a final reading but the meter just has a pin number, no reading????
Its a smart meter and they were taking readings electronically every 15 minutes so do I need to do anything?
The last reading on my billing was Oct 31
Since then I can see a daily consumption (£ and KWH) but no total meter readings?

Smart meter readings are every 30 minutes not 15.

Your meter by the DNO main fuse and meter tails will have a screen on it (NOT the wireless In Home Display device) if you Google the make/model number to find the user operating manual for it it should allow you to read the registers.

As @Rodders53 has said your Smart Meter is by the incoming electricity supply - perhaps in a meter box or garage - it is not the In House Display IHD in you kitchen.

For electric meters the display is always alight-   there may be a couple of buttons A and B.  Press A and scroll through the display. You are looking for some numbers with R1 R2 and ttl  - R1 an R2 are the day and night and ttl is the sum of R1 and R2.    If you only have a SVT rather than E7 you will only have one set of numbers.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

You should be able to get a meter reading from the IHD.

Thanks anyway. Well I've decided to take a record of the last fireball reading 31 Oct and just add all the daily readings up to today and keep that as my record. I'm pretty confident that British gas will have the accurate reading up to the date they took over. So just keeping that as my record if they are wildly out 🤔

Allowing that you should be checking the readings at the meters on at least an occasional basis, this is probably a good opportunity to do that, though. Once you've learned the method, it will be easy in the future, no?

I agree with Alnat1. I wouldn't trust BG to use accurate readings. They certainly didn't when my dad moved out of his house. They wouldn't accept my readings to start with, but I wouldn't give in as I had proof.

In a perfect world maybe ...... but we are not in a perfect world and with BG thrown into the mix chaos is pretty much guaranteed.

Have you figured out how to read your meter yet ?

    I am taking daily readings.
Tomato had the accurate readings, although I’m not sure any bill actually showed a meter reading 🧐
