    That is strange to hear...

They can look at the movements on your item to see if it was originally reserved.

If it was reserved then they can check at the computer terminals if it has a) been sold b) expired or c) cancelled.

If your reservation was confirmed then they should be able to give you a valid reason for it now saying that it does not exist.
I can confirm this, e.g. if I cancelled a reservation on the system it would say "from Reserved to Main - DAVID". Although, to be perfectly honest I have had customers accusing me of selling their reservations to someone else, I have shown them the in depth reservation screen (for all ye Argos workers, stock reservation under the Customer Service option), it shows that it expires and have STILL been accused of selling their items! Sometimes you can't win lol :rotfl:

Surely if an item is " IN Stock " online and a customer reserves it, arrives at the store to find that it isn't in fact there, they should receive compensation for their travel/time.

It is no excuse to say that a glitch has happened with Argos systems.

I did a 200 mile round trip for a wii, when I got there it took them about 15 mins for them to find it, can't help but suspect a member of staff had hid it to keep it for themselves.

That's about as quick as you will get ANYTHING in my local Argos. Talk about slow! Even when the store is empty.

I grabbed one of these when they first appeared last Monday. Collected on New Years Day (Sunday hours) and I was the ONLY customer in the store. Still took over 20mins from paying. Perhaps the staff were wrestling over it in the stock room???

I've seen people 'reservation surfing' on the in-store payment terminals to try and find sought after items! ie they reserve something themselves on line to get a reservation number and then hunt downwards from that number to try and find things that have recently gone out of stock (like Wii this Xmas and £50 Xboxes last Xmas).

    Now there's an interesting thought!

The only way that could be done is from the quick pay terminals. is an interesting thought though and may explain why people's reservations have been sold! ONLY TO BE USED BY SCUM

Follow up from my original post, this is the response I received to an e-mail I sent querying my reservation not being instore:-

"Thank you for your e-mail regarding your recent reservation.

I am very sorry your reservation was out of stock when you went into
the store. This is due to a system error where stock levels are
calculated incorrectly, allowing customers to reserve items that are currently
out of stock. I can assure you this is an isolated incident.

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused."

  • I reserved a DS Lite on Thursday night online ( I was in shock when it said it was in stock as I'd been checking for weeks!) and was half expecting it not to be there when I went to collect it as they are still in short supply it would seem, but it was there and at last my DS Lite search can end! :)

About 80% of reservations are over the internet, so if there are any problems we have no way of contacting the customer.
You could send an email to the address they gave when they reserved the item?
