This seems odd because OLED displays are the top end displays for nearly all image work now, are incredibly sharp, with excellent RGB colours representations and infinite contrast ...
Thanks, that's interesting. We're going well off topic now, but that might be the difference between pro and consumer level displays, though that idea maybe doesn't quite fit with your gaming laptop.
My laptop is ProArt as well, so designed for graphics. It is the monitor at home that is an MSI OLED gaming monitor, still incredibly sharp though, as sharp as the laptop and work monitor (all are 4k).

Agree on the colour gamut and contrast ratio, and you may well be right about sharpness on the Pro-Art - I've never used one - but there does seem to be a known, inherent issue with OLED, not just with Asus; when looking for a replacement I saw the same problem with Lenovo.
It is partly the sub-pixel layout and partly Windows not playing nicely with it as you say, and though I mention imaging I struggled just with text clarity at times.
That can be dealt with entirely by disabling ClearType, that being said it is on on my home PC and looking at it on here it is not a problem even if I use a really fine font type.

Were the OLED displays 4k, or were you comparing 4K LCD to 1440p/1080p OLED? When it comes to fine detail higher resolution will always win. To the point now I cannot see myself ever wanting to use anything less than 4k.

I think it is more than just ClearType, but it's significant you're at 4k - the high pixel density probably makes a lot of difference. Anyway, we're well off topic for a credit card forum!
