[TV license is] Less than £4 a week currently, is frankly a bargain.
£14/month.  I used to think this was quite expensive for what you get, but then I remember it covers the household.  If you compare that to netflix etc, they average around £9 for 1 or 2 sign-ins, but are more like £15-£20 for the family packages which allow 5-8 sign-ins.

It's the way the lies and scare tactics are used that really makes me not want to pay it (although we have always paid it because we watch BBC).  If they just made it a subscription service it would be much fairer, but then again I guess they'd have to remove themsleves from "normal TV" i.e. when you scan for channels, you no longer find BBC1 and BBC2??

Or you'd find a channel with a lot of adverts, like the version of the BBC you can watch in places like Malta.

Yes.... but the reason why you can't seriously combine Freeview with a BBC subscription is because the BBC took the capability to do so out of the official specification when Greg Dyke was in charge.
