Can I open a bank account with no ID?

I need to open a bank account but don't have a passport that is in date and I can't afford to renew it. I don't drive and don't have a provisional/driving licence either - again, I'd rather not pay out for this.
Does anyone know of any bank accounts that don't require ID of this kind or does this not exist?
This would be a secondary account, so switching is not an option (in case anyone was thinking to recommend doing this and using the switch incentive towards getting an ID).
Thank you in advance!

If you are happy to just have a basic bank account you might be able to open that in person at a bank, maybe Nationwide, with your old passport and other supporting ID like utility bills, buspass, letter from DWP, employer's ID etc. Some have said on here that veterans ID will be accepted as well, assuming that is an option.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. HSBC will also let you open an account with a birth certificate and other letters such as bills or a tenancy agreement1

Are you on the electoral roll, at your current address? Do you get any official documents sent there other than phone accounts? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing1

I have never had to show ID to open a bank account I just do it online.3

I opened a bank account recently and wasn’t asked for any ID. The first page said it would be required, but it never came up again and the account was opened without it.I have a tendency to mute most posts so if your expecting me to respond you might be waiting along time!2

Will the bank be able to verify you from credit records / electoral roll.
Can you get another account with whoever you currently bank with?2 -
In my recent experience they'll only ask for Id if you fail the standard electronic verification, which I assume includes things like being on the electoral roll etc...)2
-
Yes actually the person I know who needed a tenancy etc wasn't on the electoral role and had no credit accounts so there was no other way to identify them.1

Trying to open another account with whoever you currently bank with is the obvious first step, have you tried that already?2

I'd presume the OP wants an account with someone who isn't their current bank, as is good practice in case of outages etc.
NatWest are a no these days (asked for driving licence/passport upload.)
Parent with a paper driving licence opened a Nationwide, so it would depend what else they will accept as proof of identity (council tax was used as proof of address.) They applied online but were asked to visit a branch with the items.
Barclays seem to insist everyone goes to branch, but if you are local and they don't need photo ID, they might be worth a go.
Birth certificates are usually only accepted as proof of ID for under 18s.1
