Urgent help please-gas board condemned my boiler as say parts not available

I have a Worcester 924 combi which I was told on Monday needed a new balanced flue assembly. This was ordered by the British Gas engineer who came out on their 3 star contract. Today I have been told that it it not the correct part and will not fit. They say the mistake was because their parts list is wrong at British Gas. The boiler is about 16 yrs old and has been out of production for some time. They have now condemned the boiler unless I can find the part myself.(and also quoted me £3500 for a new one!!!)
Does anyone know where I could find this part? I have phoned Worcester who cannot help and have not done well with my internet searching.
We have been without heating and hot water since Sunday

Hi
You could try posting on www.diynot.com Plumbing and heating forum, otherwise you might have to go with a new one. Get some more quotes(goes without saying I suppose!)

They have quoted for a Worcester 28i Jnr/28SI MKll £1532 for just the price of the boiler and the rest is for the fitting!0

The boiler is a fairly cheap- end boiler, still good but on the lower price end. Price would probably be around £900 to buy new to a plumber at the most inc VAT. Can't imagine the quote is to replace only, as I would of though £200 would cover that for a straight forward job.As said get other quotes.0
