What do you think the government should do about it exactly? What practical measures could be taken other than banning all social media?
Ultimately as a consumer, you have the choice to buy from reputable businesses that exist on high streets or online or to believe the rubbish peddled on social media and buy products of dubious provenance via that route...

That doesn’t go anywhere for me. Whilst the sentiment is good I don’t think it will help at all as the type of person who falls for these places isn’t the sort of person that is going to realise they are vulnerable and seek out an app.
You might also want to change your spelling, I think you mean Dodgy not doggy.

I'm not following a link to an unknown site promoted by an anonymous forum poster but agree strongly with what you say - anyone motivated to conduct some basic due diligence on such vendors will find plenty of existing resources, such as Trustpilot and other review sites, Companies House, website hosting searches, standard search engines using company name plus 'scam', etc, but the type of person caught out by shady operators isn't likely to be able and/or willing to put in any effort into basic research before purchasing…

Above all, never touch anything on Socila Media.
